I've noticed EPG Collector using up to 60% CPU on my Media Centre while running. Is there anyway to make it a little "lighter"?

Can't see the problem? Just set it up to run at a time when you are not going to be using the MC. I have mine set to run at 5.30am.

That would be ok if we left the Media Center on (or sleeping) all the time, which is not the case. And when the EPG Collector runs it does interfere with any other process, including Media Center itself...

Set the process to run at a lower priority?

It runs 100% on my machine but then the machine is a lowly Sempron 3000. And then sometimes it doesn't completely properly with timeouts and other errors. Since I run this at 3am I often don't see these errors and have only seen them when I note my epg is out of data which means for a day or so the collection failed.

Unfortunately MHEG5 data is compressed. Uncompressing the data is processor intensive.

On the plus side a collection doesn't take very long.

No, it doesn't... Will have to time it better, because if it happens to fall during a HD program it does impact and causes artifacts on screen... Or even interrupts iTunes playing HD movies.

It doesn't have to be running. It happens to be running. I might be watching a program and the scheduler start the collection. It just happens.

As I said before, my PC is not always on, so creating a 4am schedule is not the solution, and I can't see myself turning it on every day at 10am just to run the collection as another solution.

The best way is then to set a start time and run the schedule every three, four hours, so it's bound at some stage to fall while the PC is on, and might from time to time fall in a time that we are watching something...

How about running a task at power on or log on (is there a feature to do that?) and also schedule a regular task at 4.00am.

One of then would work.

OK so you do not have the PC on or sleeping but why not set a wake timer in the bios? (if it supports it). That way it will be woken even if off. Then set a scheduled task that does the download and then shuts back down.
If the bios does not have a wake feature then looks like a task on login might be best.

This EPG Collector is a godsend, but I find the 100% cpu useage on my htpc to be excessive - it interferes with everything, the whole thing just grinds to a halt while collecting.

Because, like freitasm, I choose not to leave my htpc on/hibernating all the time. I'll look into having it run at startup, but it's not ideal. Surely the epg collector doesn't have to use 100% of the cpu, seems a bit extreme.

Is there a way to have a task wakeup from a S3 state? That would mean the machine would be in a very lower power state and only wakeup for the collection.
