I was surfin the net today and came across some juicy info on Sky+ (the equivalent of MySky in the UK).

There is a secret installer's menu available by doing the following:

I don't have mysky to test myself, but the sky+ and mysky STB's are physically the same, hopefully the firmware is similar too so this will work.

sorry, after discussion with site admin, we have decided to remove the step by step instructions, but have left your links intact.

No stress, but we have a policy of not publishing those sorts of 'backdoors' into gadgets due to the likely hood of some users causing themselves some trouble.

Have a nice night.

Doesn't work on MySky anyway. Just takes you into the remote control help screen.

too bad it doesn't work...

maybe sky used a different key combo on mysky so the uk tricks wouldn't work.

apparently contains interesting stuff like an option that allows you to reload the EPG without power cycling...

and can be used to install a new hard drive and tht sorta stuff...

also i was reading that n the UK you can purchase your own STB's and not rent them from sky!
why don't we have that! (also they are laucning sky HD sometime soon over there as well, and they already have that video on demand stuff that sky has been talking about here. basically you go to the website on your pc, and download a windows media DRM'ed file which can be burn't, played etc, but it is only valid on the computer you downlaoded it on, and the license expires after a few months, but is totaly free for people with sky movies or sky sport, so it seems that sky wont be downloading it to your STB only your PC which some people were suggesting.) check it out at http://www.sky.com/skybybroadband/home

for sky hd info : http://www.sky.com/hd

also they have hundreds of thousands of channels looking at their site! OMG! imagine channel surfin all that goodness...

Trust me.. From person experience you still sit there complaining that there is nothing on TV! :-)

I reckon there must be an exponential graph that can be plotted - no of channels available vs number of times you complain there is nothing on tv.

So has no one attempted to upgrade the HDD in their MySky boxes yet?
I have recently launched some software for the UK equivalent of MySky (Sky+) which allows copying of all recordings from the old to new drives.  I'd be interested in any feedback if it works on other Sky PVR variants.

well this copy+ program looks interesting.

does it allow you to copy recorded programs back onto your PC and watch them on that?

if it does then many people can dump their dvd recorders and use the best available copy which is the mpeg stream from sky!

Unfortunately not - The stream as recorded to disk is still protected by NDS encryption here in the UK.  I assume the same is true in NZ.  So no burning to DVD, but you can now copy all your programs to a new HDD when you upgrade.
I was just interested to know if anyone in any other XTV based product areas has upgraded, and if Copy+ would work with them.

Unlike in the UK, we do not own our boxes here - Sky owns them. They may be a bit unhappy if we modified them!
