I have googled and read peoples opinions about bi-wiring speakers, some say it does make a slight difference, others say none at all.  If you have bi-wired your speakers, did you notice any difference in sound?

Depends on the speaker.

I recall reading in a hi-fi mag ages ago bi-wiring was a bandaid for speakers with poorly designed crossovers.

Basically the only way to find out is to try it.

These days it's largely a matter of fashion to have bi-wire terminals.

Just to clarify - are you bi-wiring or bi-amping?
Bi Wiring = One amp/output split into 2 for seperate inputs on speaker
Bi Amping = Two amps/outputs going to seperate inputs on speaker.

I have Bi Amped my Front Wharfdales (using unused surround channels on my amp and settings changed as appropriate) and found a possible slight difference. I say possible as I probably wnated to hear it, and my wife says she noticed it only after she saw the extra connections (about a week later)

Personally I can't see bi wiring doing anything, but hey, each to their own I say.

Bi-wiring.
I tried it, noticed a small difference.. not enough to do it long term. I also noticed that when I did try it, my amp wouldn't let me adjust settings under speaker config etc in the set up

How were you bi-wiring your speakers semigeek?
Was it on the Onkyo amp you listed on your other post? If so, were you integrating the surround amps? Or just adding another set of cables to your current front speaker ports?
Your 307 wouldn't be bi-wire or bi-amp capable would it?

I was connecting another set of cables to the B speaker connections on the 307, and then having speaker A cables  go to the HF+ and HF- connections on the speaker. B speaker cables went to LF+ and LF- on the speaker.  And then when playing back having both A and B selected on the amp at the same time

To be fair, the way you're set up, you 'may' notice some benefit, but it'll be marginal - then only at distortion levels.
If you were to bi-wire from a second amplifier, that'd be something else all together.

Yes, that would no longer be bi-wiring but passive bi-amping.

And don't forget best to initially bi-wire with the same type of speaker cable top and bottom, this rules out the possibility of different cables/different sound.

Remember one run of good cable will out-perform two runs of so-so cable.

It will make an audible difference just to biwire.  Have a look at the metal plates that bridge the connections on the back of the speakers, generally bits of steel or gold plated brass.  running copper (or silver if you like the sound) direct to both or three of these points will give a noticeable improvement.  similar gains can be had by using bypass cables with decent connectors between the points but less conenctions is always better.

Not as great as biamping but any connection where you can maintain a decent conductivity will improve the sound.

Whether you can hear it or not is another matter.

what are the speakers and amp just out of interest?

The amp is a entry level Onkyo which I will be upgrading in the future. Model TX-SR307.
Speakers are Panasonic SB-PF800 which I chose over a pair of Wharfedale Crystal 2-40s (due to budget) as to me the Panny's sounded better.

I did notice that bi-wiring made a difference in sound, but then I also discovered that I couldn't alter audio and other settings in the amp after bi-wiring

Strange the amp wouldn't let you make adjustments afterwards as provided you connect to the same set of banana plugs the load presented to the amp is no different.

You werent using the speaker b outputs or anything along those lines?

Other than that no idea, i'm strictly a 2 chan man.

You can say the same about any number of "snakeoil" audiophile/audiophool solutions.  Something to do with dielectrics if you believe the psuedoscience!

Haha when does it stop? I'm pretty sure there is no limit to what one can do to customize their home theatre..

I think I'll just stick to speaker wires on the carpet for the time being ;)

With an entry model of receiver, you can simply forget the bi-wiring idea to save bucks on expensive cables.

In most cases, believing in improvement of sound quality is like religious things. You will feel it if you believe it... amen.
