Hi,

Over the weekend I bought a new 40" Bravia LCD, My HTPC connects to this via HDMI.  The HTPC is running Windows 7 in a Sliverstone GD02-MT with a 4.3" touchscreen with the imon software.

The new TV replaced a 32' LCD and using that setup I used to turn the HTPC, Media centre would start and display on the TV and the touchscreen would display the media information, through Imon.

Now when I turn the HTPC media centre starts and displays on the touch screen and the desktop displays on the TV.  No matter what I do I can't seem to get Media Centre to default to showing on the TV.  The only way I can get it onto the TV is to minimise Media Centre on the touchscreen and drag it to the TV.  Then the imon media information displays on the touchscreen like it should.  But the next time I turn on the HTPC media centre is back on the touchscreen.

Any Ideas how I can get this working properly?

Cheers

Try making the HDTV your main display.

Right-click on your desktop, click on 'Screen Resolution' in the context menu.
Select your HDTV (press the 'Identify' button if you don't know which is which) and tick the box that says 'Make this my main display'.

Alternatively, if it already is your main display, try making the touchscreen the main display, even if it seems counterintuitive.

I tried that, but it doesn't work either,  The only way I seem to get both displays working is with the desktop extended, which wasn't the case with the old TV.

have you tried installing device drivers for your screen? or manually selecting what type of screen it is? perhaps windows doesnt think its capable of running media on it

I updated various drivers and set up the HDTV in the settings of Windows Media Centre and it still opens in the 4.3" touchscreen.

So I uninstalled Imon thinking maybe its the software causing a problem, but still it opens in the touchscreen

Did a registery clean just incase some was still lurking in there - still opens in the touchscreen.

Minimised WMC and dragged it to the HDTV display maximised and restarted, thinking it would remember which display it was on, but no - still on the touchscreen

I've played round with the various settings as follows...

Display desktop only on 1 - WMC opens on the HDTV and there is nothing on the touchscreen.  So I changed the setting back to Extended, closed WMC and reopened it - still on the touchscreen

Dupiclate Display - WMC opens on both but the whole desktop is displayed in the middle of the screen of the HDTV at 1024x768 and thats the maximum setting available

Any other ideas to make this work properly.
I'm assuming there must be a registery entry that tells WMC to open on the touchscreen if its available?  but I can't find it.

when you go through the display setup wizard from MCE, you get asked if the current is the screen you want MCE on:

Settings > TV > Configure you TV or Monitor

Cracked it.

Someone over at the green button suggesting installing Maxifier.  I installed that and set WMC to open on the HDTV.  Restarted the computer and WMC opened on the HDTV.  I uninstalled maxifier to see what would happen and it still opened on the HDTV so the problem seems to be fixed.  Frustrating though that I had to install a 3rd party app to do something Windows should do.

did you actually try and run the wizard I mentioned above?  I assume when you run through that, it should set a preference as the maxifier utility probably does..

Yep sure did, a couple of times.  I don't know what was going on.  Maxifier showed the HDTV as the secondary monitor and WMC was set to open on display one, despite windows showing the HDTV as display 1.  And even though I swapped them round as someone mentioned above it refused to open on the HDTV.

is the HTPC set to a TV-type resolution?  e.g. 720p, 1080p etc?  Or to a PC-type resolution such as 1920x1080 or 1600x900?
