Okay so my father just upgraded to MySky and they are giving us our old decoder as a multi-room box free for 3 months. I am going to be getting the second decoder in my room. I already have a Jaycar card reader which I assembled Christmas time last year. Unfortunately  I never got it to work properly and didn't have time to mess around (plus I just ended up confused.).

When I run Oscam I get Pheonix_Init error when Oscam trys to connect with the card reader.
I am using a DSE USB to Serial interface cable. Windows 7 64bit. Does anyone know what causes this error?

The few guides there are on here are a bit old. So what is the most up-to-date software at the moment to run this sort of operation.

The Sky man (or woman) is coming on the 7th of April to install the upgrades.

So overview of the post:
1. Anyone know what Pheonix_Init error is and/or what causes it?
2. What is the most up-to-date software to get SkyTV through a satellite tuner on computer with a card reader?

Also if I get this to work I will make a up-to-date guide on how to do it with the latest software and techniques.

Thanks

First of all, what type of card will you be using?  Look at the number on the back which starts with NZXX and tell us the first four numbers.

Well with the upgrade if Sky just takes the whole current box and dumps it in my room with the card in it it will be a blue NZ45. Which if I remember correctly is the card that work?

Yep, that's the card you want. Check this link out as it is what you are after http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=84&topicid=66101

Use the latest version of DVBLink TVSource from www.dvblogic.com and you'll be sweet.

Okay sweet. I am using a usb to serial converter this could have been my ultimate problem when I tried getting this running a few months ago.

So DVBLink TVSource is what tunes the card and communicates with Oscam and send the signal to WMC correct?

Just downloaded Oscam, opened it up, changed the com port to com3 instead of com1 and this is what I get...

If you have not seen my thread in the Sky section, I have bought some RG6 cable, a splitter and connectors so once I have that installed I will be able to hook up the dish to my computer and borrow the Sky card out of the current box to do some testing to see if it works.

I have a feeling that the Pheonix_Init error is something to do with the card reader itself (I probably stuffed up putting it together) or it doesn't like the USB to serial converter.

Just a tip, give sky a call (dont trust the installer) and ensure that you have the three months multiroom free.
We were offered the same deal by our mysky installer on the spot, accepted it, but ended up getting charged by sky despite my protests.

I called Sky to upgrade to MySky so that I could record 2 programs and watch another in the lounge and they offered me the deal to get MySky and then use my old Sky box as multiroom free for 3 months.

The reason I think they do this is because most people probably don't cancel the multiroom after the 3 months and just start paying for it and then think of that luxury as the norm.

I went through the same sort of promo a few years back but they didnt give the free months on multiroom as promised, they charged me straight away. Im just saying that you should double check what your getting, and get it in writing if possible. Your situation was a little different, but always bear in mind that there are often miscommunications between the installers and sky themselves - and its sky that bills you at the end of the day.

Okay I will double check that on Monday. Thank you for the advice.
