I'm planning a new build based on the below components and am considering a pico power supply for noise and space reasons...anyone using one in thier HTPC build and will it be powerfull enough to run this system??

I3 2100 cpu
Gigabyte GA-H67ma-usb3-b3 Mobo
4Gb kingston valueram
Samsung F3 1Tb hard drive
DvD drive (LG or samsung)

Optional parts:
an 8400GS fanless so i can use the s video port as a stop gap until the TV is upgraded.
Hauppage 2200 or similar 2 channel tv card

any suggestions?

i MIGHT be persuaded to change the mobo to the micro atx version but that means losing the pcie slot down to one slot which limits my optional cards.

would the 150W pico psu do the job or can anyone suggest a small and quiet power supply to use?

I can't comment on the Pico PSU, in fact I had to google it to see exactly what it it, but I thought I might like to know that I too share your desire for a quiet HTPC.

I recently did a build similar to what you have specified and I used this PSU:

What I really liked about this PSU is that the fan only kicks in if cooling is needed, which for a HTPC is almost never.

i have 2 cases at the moment.. i will just see what fits.

The first is a faulty NAD CD player case that looks great with my gear so if i can squeeze it all in there then that would be great.i'm trying to get a good match with my Onkyo TXSR608 amp that i use.

the other is an old horizontal desktop case that i sprayed up satin black and actually looks ok

my other choice of power supply would be a silverstone st450f or similar...i have the st50ef and am very pleased with the low noise of it.

I put a PC into an old kenwood equalizer many years back, was quite sucessful. I used the ATX hole and PCI slot frame off an old ugly case that I just drilled out the rivits and then put on the back of the equalizer.

Keyboard hack on the front panel buttons got some of them making useful commands.

The problem I had was the power supply space was not high enough for a normal ATX one and the small one I had ghettofitted in blew up, and I really needed to put some front USBs on it and possibly a card reader which wasnt possible without serious amounts of "work" which I couldnt be bothered with.
