Hi,

Just got a new panasonic twin tuner freeview recorder (DMR-BW880) and I can't figure out how to watch tv recorded on the panasonic from windows media centre.
It's connected to my network ok and I can see "DMR-BW880" in the network from windows explorer (it allows me to view propererties but I can't do anything else).
I can see how to allow other DLNA devices to watch content from the HTPC by setting the options from the streaming menu in media player.

But how do I use media centre to watch tv recorded on the panasonic? I feel like I'm missing something really basic.

I don't think you can.
I have the same model but I think you can only stream media to the Recorder and not from it.
I would have to read the manual again to confirm.

The Pana BluRay player will send content to a laptop... but I've only ever done it on a Mac, using Twonky MediaServer - which isn't a help as you're on Windows.
Sorry.

But, it IS a DLNA server, so in theory, it should work.
If Windows Media Centre doesn't work, try another DLNA tool perhaps?

The DMR-BW880 manual says other dlna devices can play it's content but it can't play content from other devices (not what I was expecting from a device that has dlna logo all over it). So I assume it's a dlna server but not a dnla player.

Yes, it is a server, not a player.
Hopefully the 2011 rendition is both... like the new Samsung BluRay recorder.

I've re-read the manual and learnt a few things. It states "titles with remote access restriction (e.g. copy protection) signals sent from broadcasters are not available for this function.
Perhaps because it is a certified Freeview Appliance this could be the problem?
Have you tried accessing recordings from the AV input (i.e. non-Freeview)?
I haven't hooked up my network (PC and Recorder in different rooms) yet so can't try it out.

The panny is a Server only, I have one downstairs,

I use XBMC on a mac upstairs ( so the PC version should do it also ) and I can stream saved content off it,
*but* I only get Audio on TV3 recordings because the current Darma (10.0) version of XBMC uses an older version of ffmpeg that doesn't do HEAAC audio - it does Dolby fine. - Video works for all recordings.

The Eden (11.0) build of XBMC expected at the end of the year will incorporate the current ffmpeg and should do it no probs.

Thanks for the info.
I downloaded xbmc and I can play the recorded shows from the panasonic. Looks like a very nice player so far. Perfect video and sound for all the channels I tried (1,2,3&4).

But the play controls don't work for recorded tv. I can pause and play, but I can't fast forward or rewind. The controls work for regular video files (avi, mkv, mp4 & divx) but not content on the panasonic recorded from freeview.
Any ideas how to make them work?

If I can get xbmc working well I'll probably change from mce.
