Hi I'm thinking about purchasing this tv purely for connecting to a HTPC for media. I don't know much about tv's and have been trying to figure out if i should go with plasma or lcd. I noticed alot of the plasma tv's don't support 1920 X 1080 but this model does. Also im wanting to know if this matters. For instance if i was watching some tv series on this tv, the normal 350mb size , i think the res of those are much less than 1920 X 1080, would it look very pixilated?
Just so you know... The U series Panasonic's only offer 1920x1080 for still images... when it comes to moving images they can only create 900 lines of resolution. If you want a Full HD (1080p) experience, you'll need to move up to the TH-P42ST30z.
However, seeing as a lot of your movies are only going to be SD or lower (?) - then you needn't worry too much. If, however you enjoy BluRay or gaming, it's a different story. What resolution does your HTPC output?
The TH-P42U30 has a green panel! Number one reason not to buy it! Just turn it off and you will see what I'm on about it, the blacks are as good as the panel colour, never buy a green panel! Can't believe Panasonic brought out the X30 and U30's with those panels! Bah! I'm grumpy.
Buy the ST30 as Dunnersfella recommends, Enough said.
