Hi
I have 7 x64, whenever i play mp4 files with multichannel AAC audio track my AMP only shows 2 channels. I know this happens because amp usually cannot decode AAC, but i had this problem before and it was fixed by tweaking something. I dont remember now as i reinstalled since then.

In MP Video Codecs settings, under AAC audio decoder i have 5 options MPC/MPA, MPC Real Audio, MONOGRAM, ffdshow and MS DTV/DVD. And under MPEG/AC3 audio i have 4 options - MPC/MPA, MS DTV/DVD, AC3 Filter and ffdshow.

Digital COAX is in use to connect my AMP to HTPC.

Have you tried if unchecked in Monogram codec not to downmix audio in 'MP Config>codec' works?

Also, have you checked "prefer AC3" in the 'MP Config>video>audio'

when i play these files in WMP amp shows dolby digital but when i play them via MP amp doesnt show dolby.

in graph edit its video file.mp4 - MS DTV/DVD - AC3 Filter - sound out

i have tried selecting MS DTV/DVD for audio codec and aac decoder but no luck.

i have verfied that the files contain 6 channel AAc audio track

Have you tried using Graphedit & remotely connecting to MP when one of the problem files is playing, to check what codecs MP is actually using? Remember, you have to have MP in windowed mode.

The Microsoft codec doesn't support AC3/DD in 3rd party software.

So you are saying If I installed Windows7 OS with their version of MCE (Home Premium?, Ultimate), then you can't use the default codecs for playback with Mediaportal, GB-PVR, etc? Just like Cyberlink software.

Waste of time buying their upgraded OS versions, then, isn't it.

Oh, you can use them alright. It is just that some audio formats aren't supported in 3rd party software. This is the result of the fact that Microsoft has to get a license to distribute codecs that "use" Dolby's IP. There is a brief comment -->here<--. As far as I know, the video codec is completely unrestricted and I think it is pretty robust so I often recommend it to new MP users. I still use a combination of Cyberlink, AC3Filter, ffdshow and Monogram codecs myself...

@gumdigger: I think what you need is to have FFDShow doing post-processing to encode the AAC to AC3. I don't actually know the ins and outs of what is required to get that working since I've never had to do it for myself - it would be useless for my computer speakers, and any loss in quality on the already perilously low quality HE-AAC would not be desirable (come on TVNZ, give us AC3 on TV One and TV 2!!!

i post processed fddshow audio and it doesnt work, still shows two channels.
