Looks like my Onkyo 608 is having problems and this probably means (even though it's under warranty) I'll need to buy a new amp while they sort out the issue.

I have requirements for middling power (100watts per channel maybe), 4 HDMI in, Full video processing (upscaling 720p inputs to 1080p for output for example) and (this is the hard one) 2 HDMI outputs.

I'd also like internet radio, but that's not a biggie really... Also needs to be black and preferably have a quiet/no fan.

The Yamaha RX-V2065 seems to satisfy most requirements but I don't know about the noise.

Any recommendations? And where to buy (online or in Chch)? I bought from JB Hifi last time and have no issues with their service - they just don't seem to have an amp that meets my requirements.

At the moment I am using an HDMI splitter to drive both a TV and projector and it works ok but I'd like to do it all in the amp if possible. (And my Onkyo problems persist with the HDMI splitter removed)

Cheers - N

Yamaha RXV2065?
That's an ooooollld amp isn't it?
Surely a Yamaha RXV767, RXV1067 or RXV2067 would do what you want?
Having said that, they're all being replaced by the '8' series soon are they not?

Looks like the 767 will do everything I want and there's a great special on right now in Chch too... I'll call JB tomorrow and see what I need to do then go from there... Thanks for the quick response.

No Internet radio, but I did say that wasn't too important :-)

Who has that in Chch? JB's website says they have none for sale?

Ignore the URL, it's clearly the 767

The '67 yamaha range is out... the '71 range will be available this month (August) ..... just FYI

Onkyo TX-NR709 is a big step up from the 609 (big step up in price too). JB don't stock it but said they'd get it in for me for $1800 (that was a while ago though). I think I'm leaning more towards an Integra DTR-40.3 though.

Based on a quick discussion with JB and the local Onkyo repair people, I think it's highly unlikely my next amp will be an Onkyo model.

Shame... Heaps of features and good price.

Once bitten, twice shy I guess. Don't blame you.

My current Onkyo is reaching a decade old now and it has been superb. The heat issues have been banished with the 09 series so I'm more confident upgrading than I have been in the last couple of years.

I think the Yamaha Aventage A1010 might offer a good alternative though but its in a higher price catagory and offers less features.

How did they address heat issues in the 09 series?

I would imagine better heatsinsks/fans/components/power effeciency or combination.

That's almost enough to get me to upgrade. My 508 runs pretty hot on blu ray, even with a decent sized case fan. Having network functions would be the icing on the cake. I probably won't bother though.

Yes it has taken Onkyo too long to sort this issue out and they've gotten themselves a reputation for making AVRs that can also fry eggs. I've been holding off for a while because of these ongoing issues.
