Hi Geekzone and awesome spring is here for more outdoors projects.

I have a little problem with my setup as I can record shows for my wife but I cant watch other channel while recording as it stops the recording all together in Windows Media Center so do I need to buy another tunner or there is a way to do this without adding hardware?

If it's a single tuner, you can watch and record two programs of the same mux.

my tuner got hybrid trio DVB-S, DVB-T and Analog but im only using DVB-T Im gonna have to play around with settings

You can't do it with WMC. You need N-PVR (GB-PVR), MediaPortal or similar... or another tuner.

Is there any reason why WMC doesn't allow recording of one channel while watching another?

I've begrudgingly moved from my beautiful MythTV (Ubuntu) setup to Windows 7 because of Blu-ray and Steam. MediaPortal didn't cut the mustard for me and although WMC looks the business, I want an all in one (the wife useability factor). Has anyone heard any news regarding WMC and multiple recording options?

(I'm asking everywhere and will repost anything I get from other sites)

There's no technical reason why it couldn't. It uses the same tuners and same drivers.

You'd have to get a posse togther and try and change them.

Also it looks like Windows 8 may not come with WMC as I saw some rumblings about some of the audio licencing (to Dolby and DTS) not being done, suggesting that maybe there wont be a Windows 8 WMC.

I also find it MP a bit buggy and it did not work smooth with my remote but the main thing i did not like is that I had to install all bunch of stuff just to get it running then my very fist time i install it it would not work and read my cards name wrong. I install it again but was laggy and crashed more than a few times. NexPVR is not bad though but WMC hands down the easiest to setup and remote runs great even easy for my wife...

I cant remember exactly what name it gave the card but what i had it was DVB-S and when I went to the server configuration I got stacked there because it will not find the card i install it and label it something different like internet service I just cant remember as it was a few months back but it was displaying my DVB-S and I know it is free software but what shame that it did not work for me despite following forums guides for setup.

Im probably not helpful as I cant remember the exact name it gave to the card but i think it was something with IP letter like if was a internet thing...

Hi mm,

I've had MythTV for 2+ years and while it has a few problems, it's generally is quite crisp, MediaPortal seems to crash on me regularly, especially if I drop out of the front end to play a game. Going back into the frontend (sorry for the mythtv terminology) would allow me to watch previous recordings but would freeze when trying to watch live tv. After ending the process and restarting mp the it would claim to still be recording a show but when I went to watch it, it hadn't been taped.

Big pluses for MP, it played nice with my HVR-3000 and the keymaps for the remote were spot on, the down side( personal preference), there were too many keypresses to get things done.

Regarding Windows 8, if they are going to can WMC, what are the odds they will release it opensource for us to tinker with? Slim to none?

Lol...open source WMC....

Mythtv is good a great PVR and easy to use but a pain to setup and only use WMC with Win7 because all pc games work out of the box and I did not get that with linux but as a OS is great not as a gaming rig though.

Ahh, right. The DVB-IP tuner is a built in "virtual" tuner for receiving IP-TV.

Yes there was a similar name with the IP TV ? so let me understand what you mean the MP did not even see my card?? I thought it was just labeling wrong the device.

I got a Hybrid card with both DVB-T and DVB-S so if I hook up both the dish and the digital antenna to same card having to different imputs sd and hd would it that work in Windows Media Center to watch the HD channels and record the SD channels???? maybe would work. Have anyone here tried that??

I'm pretty sure the HVR3000 has only one tuner (can only access the dvb-t OR dvb-s at the same time)
