I'm looking to buy a few TV mounts for my new house and am interested to hear anyone's opinion on whats available out there to buy.

I'm looking to mount my TV's as close to the wall as possible on a static (no angling required) mount.

There is a huge range available online and I have no idea what is rubbish and what is good.

Any ideas?

As you mentioned there are lots of different mounts available.
I am doing a "Man Cave" and I bought my equipment from Future Shop.
I have a 60" LED TV and bought the SANUS vision mount (VLF311), it pivots and adjusts so I'm not limited to the exact placement on the wall.

I mounted it so that the bottom of the TV is 42" from the floor which is good height when sitting down.
I also had a electrical outlet installed right behind the TV mount so the cable is hidden, other cables were fed through the wall down to the PVR box and other equipment.

I grabbed my last one cheap from Harvey Norman who were clearing their display area and had a few left over.

You can basically pick any one for the standard wall mount. It really isn't that critical, only that it fits your mounting holes/design and that it's rated for your weight/size of TV. The basic units hold the TV a fair distance off the wall but they still work fine.

It gets more expensive if you need a swivel type arrangement or are looking at some ultra flush type installs.

Watch that the connections have to plug in there. Some TV's allow this to come in from underneath, but others are still straight on from the back, which makes flush mounting difficult/requires a box cut into the wall behind the TV.

Also watch the manufacturers specs for distance to the wall etc, just in case there's something in there about that.

General things to consider...

An articulated mount that will allow the TV to move out from the wall and pivot will generally be FAR less stable and strong than a simple mount where the TV is static or has just an up/down pivot.

So, generally, cheap simple mounts are fine (they're very simple to make) but I'd avoid cheap articulated mounts like the plague.

Also, sepending on your TV, some manufacturer supplied mounts (Samsung spring to mind) are insanely thin (as they know the back of the TV perfectly and can afford to customise them to fit just their sets)...

Also, depending on whether you own the house, and how much buy in you have from a significant other, building a flase or floating wall offers a way to conceal cables and get the screen nice and close to the wall... Here's a couple I've built.

They're not difficult to build and the second one is only attached to the wall by 3 screws so it's easy to remove as well.

Following on from that, you can then mount the TV to the rear/real wall and build the new wall out to be flush with the TV. Makes it look like the TV is set right into the wall.

Architects love this, but then they don't have to pay when the TV overheats as its built into a hole with no ventilation anymore.

Thanks :-) Oh yes, I should mention that both the TVs above are attached to the main wall and the floating wall has a hole in it... I didn't want the TVs completely flush (and yes, also wanted to keep enough airflow) but the false walls manage to dramatically decrease the apparent distance from the wall to the TV...

At the moment its a Acer DTV3705.
But in the next few months i'm looking at buying a 42" and 50" Panasonic TV

My room is going to be 4.35m wide, with two 600mm windows on either side of the tv.
I wouldn't mind trying something like you've got there.

The red room is 4.4metres wide - the floating wall is 2.4m wide 9mm MDF
