Just checking after a year or so if there is still no LATM AAC splitter available so we can trim or edit recorded programmes with only an AAC+ audio track, in standard video editing programs. I've been waiting a long time now and have dozens of ts files waiting to have ads trimmed from them.

Getting so desperate that I may even consider purchasing some commercial software if there is something that will do it without re-encoding

Comskip has supported H.264/AAC for around 2 1/2 years now. It will only work by itself but does a good job of removing ads. After using it for a number of months it I stopped using it ~2 years ago because of the CPU intensive nature of H.264, I saw no point in using something that at the time took around 3 x realtime to process a video file.

With the help of others, I have (sort of) managed to to this with test (so far only a couple of minutes long) file recorded from Freeview using my old Visione VE4000 set top box, which is an unapproved box and will record to an external drive. However, it's a bit of a complex pain in the backside, and has me well and truly out of my technical depth. The procedure is:

1. Install software
- Install Klite Codec pack
- Install Xvid4PSP
- Install Graphedit
- Install Avisynth

2. Load the .ts into Graphedit. Press the play button to confirm that the constructed graph works. Then remove all of the video decoding steps. Remove the last audio pin renderer (directshow from memory). Save the graph as audio.grf

2. Re-load the .ts into Graphedit. Remove all of the audio decoding steps. Remove the last video pin renderer (again, directshow from memory). Save the graph as video.grf

3. Create the following script, and save with an .avs extension in the same directory as the two .grf files:

vid = DirectShowSource("video.grf", audio=false)
aud = DirectShowSource("audio.grf", video=false)
AudioDub(vid,aud)

4. Open the script from step 3 using xvid4psp. To convert to a divx with mp3 sound change the video and audio settings accordingly, and set the audio conversion to down-mix from six channel to two channel audio. Set bit rates at an appropriately high level. Then start the conversion - this will be slow, I get about 6 frames per second.

5. You then have a fairly bog-standard HD divx file. Commercials can be trimmed with virtualdub, or whatever,

Don't ask me for much help with this, it as far as I have got with it and only got it working a day or two ago, and it is at the limits of my technical understanding.

I can't really be bothered doing all that everythime I want to trim some files. We need someone like the Haali Splitter author to simply look for the LATM header and bypass it. Apparently it shouldn't be difficult but it's beyond me.

Try the LAV splitter from LAV Filters - DirectShow Media Splitter and Decoders.
(see http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=156191 or google LAV filters)

The LAV Splitter can split .ts files with LATM HE-AAC audio. It currently doesn't appear to be able to switch audio if there is more than one audio track and will default to AC3 if there is AC3 and HE-AAC, but it will demux the HE-ACC auido track if it is the only track available.

The LAV Decoders actually do a pretty good job too and in most cases can be used as an alternative to ffdshow.

I remember installing the LAV filters or splitter about 9 months ago, but it stopped my MediaPortal or something working so uninstalled it. I'll have to have another go at it.

I've been using VideoReDo for a year or so to edit the ads out of my .ts files.
Very fast and well worth the money. Doesn't seem to re-encode unless converting format.
Regular software updates available. Will convert to almost any file type and burn to DVD.
