A friend has just purchased MySky and the installer connected it via composite to his LCD tv.

I noticed that one of the options in the setup was 'component' output via the SCART connector.  Does anyone have some information as to the pinouts required to operate in this configuration?

I have a SCART to RGB cable but have never seen a SCART to component cable. Will the RGB cable work?

Cheers

look at P6676 and P6699 at dse.co.nz - those are what are needed on the STB's in aussie that have component via scart. Also some TVs support it now as well. Be aware you will need to use something else for the audio, but RCA splitters in the line out will work fine for that.

Along with the DSE ones from above, Jaycar have the WQ7255 that will give you both component video and audio from the TV SCART. Note the VCR SCART will not output component, only composite.

The Jaycar cable you quote is a SCART to RGB cable. Can you confirm that when selecting component out on the MySky it uses the same pinouts as RGB?

When component video is tranfered over a SCART cable the Y channel is conveyed on the G channel, the Pr/Cr on the R and the Pb/Cb on B. The composite circuit is still available (although not with the cable shown), when component video is conveyed sync is on the Y (or G) channel as per all component connections. When RGB is conveyed sync is on the composite channel as none of the R,G or B channels carry sync.

So to answer your question,  I can confirm with 100% certainty that WQ7255 will do the job I have used it countless times.

I have used some of the DSE adaptors to route component thru an AV switcher I have which only has scarts and svideo and composite sockets on it. It leaves the composite line alone totally since I also am using that from a couple of other devices thru the switch.

Shame that its still common to only have one component input on a TV still. 2 is a rareity and 3 is unheard of.
