Hey Guys

So i am planning to build my own home theater system. I will be using the following.

-Sony BDV-E780W 5.1 Surround sound with wireless rear speakers.
- Older panasonic 32" TV
- Optoma HD33 1080p 3D projector
- 120" Projector screen

The problem is that I dont know how to set up the 5.1 Speakers as the120" screen will be on a different wall to the TV. i cant put speakers under the projector screen as it will be used with the TV more often. The speaker cable lenght is only 3m, and this restricts me putting the speakers up on the ceiling. I dont know how I should go about this. Please help!

Below is a diagram of the room to give you a better idea.

The circles are speakers. The 2 on the left corners are the wireless rear speakers. I quite like this set up as it will be easy to set up. But when i am using the projector, will this set up work fine?

Because the screen will be on a different side.

How should I go about this? Please Help.. Thanks in advance.

Can you not move the TV/HT so it would be behind the screen (when the screen is down)?

I thought about it. I have decided to use the speaker system only for the projector. But I still want to keep the bluray receiver with the tv cabinet. And because of this, the cables will not reach from the bluray receiver to the speakers.

Where can i get cable extenders.?? I need a longer cable basically.

I also have drawn a new set up diagram. The ones by projector it self are the rear speakers,.

Would this setup work. I will keep the center speaker with tv when not used. and just pull it out when i am using projector..

The other 2 front ones will be set up in the ceiling corners, just like the rear ones..

So would this set up work? and more importantly, where can i get longer cables for the 2 speakers.?? Thanks

How about wall mount the TV and mount the screen on brackets so it comes down in front of the TV. If it's a fixed screen then mount on hinges and fold it up when not in use?

Because its a concrete house in wall wiring is not possible. I would like to keep the tv where it is. Will the new diagram work? It will only be used with the projector,..

And where can i get longer cables for the 3 front speakers..??? Can you please direct me? I am very new to this.

Effectively, I'd run a 5.1 for the projector, and a sepearate 2.0 for the TV.
Or, a 7.1 2 zone receiver + speaker combo (throwing away the Sony amp + speakers), using one zone for the projector, the other for TV sound.

I really don't understand why you can't mount a screen the pulls down in front of the TV ?
(The screen would be mounted to the ceiling not the wall)
If not possible then go 5.1 for projector and 2.0 for TV (or get a sound bar for the TV)

Will the 5.1 setup in the second diagram be good? Also, i have heard that these speakers have cable length of only 3m. And their connectors are different. I need a much longer length.

What can i do about these short cables?

Btw, my ceiling is too week to hold a screen.

You can buy a chocolate box from the likes of Jaycar.
They will allow you to connect a speaker cable at one end, and another piece - then connect another cable at the other side.
Sorted.

Still, it screams of compromises.

However you need to confirm how the speakers connect. Is it just wires that plug into spring clips or something else? Look at the web site below to find out what your connectors are if not just pain wire.

You are asking "can I run two separate systems?" and the answer is yes, of course you can.

Will it be any good? Well that's entirely up to you.
I suspect most of us are wondering why you don't push to make it work in the same location, so you don't have to get up and switch to the smaller seat when you watch a movie, - not so good if you have friends over.

No it's not. There will be some solid wood holding up your ceiling, I can assure you of that.

And yes, you can extend your current speaker leads, or replace the entirely with new cable. No problem there, just a bit of work on your part.

Also personally if you were to go with the split screen thing then I would save the 5.1 surroiund sound for the projector screen and just use the TV with it's own speakers. If the TV doesn't have freeview built in then get another one or a freeview receiver box.

Projectors don't have anything built in receiver wise so you'd going to need to get a freeview player to feed it. Typically these components need to be located close to the projector to get the signal to it via hdmi.

It's all very well having wireless rear speakers, but you need to mount your home theatre fairly close to the projector, which is going to be at the rear of the room anyway. Everything needs to be connected via hdmi to ensure you get HD from freeview and the bluray unit.

The speaker cable has a connector on one end for the amp/ bluray player, and the speaker side of it has plain wire. i guess will will extend the plain wire side.

Can someone recommend where and what type of speaker wire i should buy. Like the gauge.. and also, can anyone tell me how i could join the 2 cables? i dont want to just twist and tape..

there is going to be an hdmi cable running out from the amp to the projector. The amp/player will be my receiver basically.

The speaker cables provided are 3m. i am plan to add another 7m for each speaker..
