Hi,

My TV doesn't support audio in while VGA is being used, so I am looking for a really basic home theatre system to plug the computer into. Even a 2.1 system may do. Just needs DVD playback (RCA or HDMI is fine), speakers and an AUX in. Oh, and a some sort of average quality sub if I can.  Thanks!!

How much are you spending? New / second hand?

$300 is absolute max, but $200 or less would be ideal. It doesn't have to be able to blow the neighbours windows out, just so as I can hear the audio from stuff played via PC.

Are you sure there is not a headphone in socket for use with the VGA input?

You could consider a small micro system or similar that plays CD's, is an alarm clock etc etc that also has an Aux line input connection? Just ideas.

What make and model?
Audio input is generally separate from video input so I would have thought you should get audio no matter what video input is selected.

I have an old LCD and it has a 3.5mm sound input for VGA (headphone style connector).

I am positive these are not going to win you any impressed admirers in the audiophile crowd but if price is a major factor The Warehouse is selling these:

And does that audio input work on VGA mode?

Sorry if this is obvious or I'm missing something, but why not connect your computer audio out to this input when you use the VGA connection?

I very nearly bought this yesterday: http://www.dicksmith.co.nz/product/AE3646/philips-5-1-channel-dvd-home-theatre-hts3531-79 for $143

I will try running audio through AV1 while using VGA, see if that works. I will still require something to play audio only from the PC, and something for DVD's, so will still look at something.

And try the audio for VGA input too perhaps....

You might need a lead like this perhaps?
