I have a sony dvd recorder/hdd.  Recently when we play the recorded tv programmes it pauses every 2minutes for 2 seconds and then it continues fine for another 2 minutes ect ect.
Its really annoying, Any suggestions please,

This sounds very similar to the problems I (and many others) had with PlayTV. There's a few threads about it on here if you want to search. My PS3 eventually sorted itself out.

If you have the option to upgrade the firmware this should be your first step.

I am guessing that the HDD needs a clean up which there should be an option to perform from the menus. Have a look in the manual to find how to do this.
