Hi there,

I have a problem when using Singstar on my recently purchased PS3. To be honest I'm not a 'gamer' in anyway but got it purely to mess around on Singstar and watch catch-up TV. The PS3 is hooked up to the TV (so the audio comes out of the TV speakers not via an external amp) via an HDMI cable and we're using the two wireless mics supplied in the Singstar party pack. When we sing, the mic audio comes out of the speakers roughly half a second late and it kinda ruins the game, it just makes for a big old racket! I know this isn't right because I've played Singstar on other people's consoles.

We've reconfigured the latency and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I did wonder whether because the party pack contained a code to download both the game and the songs whether that makes a difference rather than playing directly from a disc but then this proved to make no difference when we borrowed a friend's hard copy. Can anyone suggest what might be the problem. Maybe it's a fault with this particular PS3 console?

I wouldn't think it's a problem with the TV, normally this kind of thing happens when the audio comes through a seperate receiver. Usually TVs are pretty good at syncing things up.

I don't have the wireless mics, it's possible they introduce some lag. However, it's strange that you can't fix it by tweaking the game settings, that's what they are there for. What happens when you reconfigure the latency, does it get any better? It has to do something, right?

I doubt there's anythign wrong with your PS3, it will be a problem with the setup somewhere...

TV's will delay the audio to match the image that they are mangling together with all the processing that they do.

Make sure that any gaming mode is enabled on the TV, things like extra Hz and noise reduction are turned off etc.

If the HDMI standards committie were any use then that would happen automatically with a game console being selected, but they couldnt even make the CEC part work properly so you have to reconfigure the display to match the source manually.
