I am considering buying a Blu-Ray writer, for the main purpose of putting something like 4 or 5 DVD5 movies onto one BD to cut down on the discs I have..

has anyone done this before? is it complicated to do, or is there some authoring software that makes it just drag and drop..?

I would also like a static menu option, just something like ; DVD 1, DVD 2, DVD 3, DVD 4

If anyone has done this before, please let me know how you do it.

I haven't done it but don't see any reason why not. Of course you'd have to put each movie into into one file probably and you'd really have to drop the dvd extras (unless you just wanted to tack them onto the end of the movie). I have done similar with Nero Burning Rom but I think just about any recent software would let you do it now.

IMHO, unless you really want a BR drive, a better option would be to get a big hard drive instead. You could easily get a 2TB drive (internal or external) for less than a BR + discs. For the same money you could just about get a 3TB now I think. You could fit hundreds of movies on one of them depending on whether you add all the extras. Then depending on what software you're using they would likely be in a more accessable format too.

That is true about the Hard Drive, but then I'd have to buy a Media Player that would play ISO rips of the DVDs through the TV?

Hmm, you might have to explain your setup a bit more. Do you want to play the movies back on a HTPC or do you want to burn the movies onto a disc on a different PC and then play them back via a seperate Blu ray machine or something?

My original post explains I want to burn several DVDs, onto one Blu-Ray, so I can use my stand alone Blu-Ray player to watch them. When you mentioned a hard drive, I took that to mean you were suggesting I rip the discs to the hard drive and keep them there.

Ok. Got the DVD's onto Bluray bit but your original post did not mention what you wanted to play the blurays back on and this being the HTPC thread, I assumed it was going to be on a HTPC.

So, no a hard drive won't help you without a suitable player. Yes you can probably do as you suggeted but you'll have to experiment a bit perhaps to get the discs into a format that your current blu ray player can read successfully. It would be a fairly involved task I think time wise. Sorry I can't be more help there. A little extra for a hard drive media player might be a simpler option and better in the long run...

No worries, couldn't see where else this thread could go, so I figured Blu-Rays,DVDs,Burning discussion would be best in HTPC.

If I were to go the way of the hard drive.. how many of those plug in media players play ISO files as normally as a DVD?

The WD TV Live will do it (I have one), and Noel Leeming has them for $129 at the moment.
