Hi,
I am using Speedfan 4.34 and I do not know what the temperatures listed there mean. The ones labelled HD0, HD1, HD2, Core are obvious, but there are others called Temp1, Temp2, Temp3 which I do not know what they are.

I have attached the log files generated by Speedfan, maybe someone can help me identify where these temperatures are read from (what area / hardware)?

I am looking to find this one out, as Temp2 and Temp3 used to reach way higher values (up to 95-98 and respectively  115 - 118), which worried me. I just assumed the readings are not very precise, as I believe no components would survive these temps. Now I placed everything inside a new case (proper HTPC case, Silverstone Grandia GD05) and the temps dropped significantly (see attached recent logs) but the highest one is still at 82-85C.

I believe I have hardware acceleration working, as the CPU load is 12% - 18% (max 20% for few seconds) when watching TV ONE, TV2 or TV3 (DVB-T). Long time ago when things were not set up properly I recall CPU load of approx 50 - 60% most of the time.

Could the highest temp be the Northbridge?

i found different versions of speed fan listed my laptop i7
core temps differently.. like there was a jump for 75cel to
max of 95cel..
as I was getting too hot the HP thing powered off
so i stuck with the latest version since gave the highest
readings.. old was 4.39 and the new one your using


as for temps it can be hard to work out some of them

but HD = hard drive temp (0, 1 and so on would be
which harddrive in the system) but working out if
its C drive or D drive can be tricky
C: would normally be HD0 and D:=HD1

as for Temp1 so on.. anyones guess think it confuses most people
you think would be a better way to make friend labels
by the developer

PW = would be power something

and CPU0 and so on would be each core temps

as much as I can help.. someone might help you with more here

Ive just spent the weekend playing with this after my case fan stopped working last week !

I installed Speedfan and had worked out what temp0,1 and 2 meant but its apparantly different for each and every motherboard. All suggestions I found said to search for Speedfan on your motherboard websites.

Several also mentioned Speedfan not being half as good as HWMonitor and so I switched to that. Whereas Speedfan gave me information on fans I didnt have HWMonitor had it all under control and didnt give massive false reading on my NB which Speedfan is known to to.

HWMonitor doesnt allow for controlling the fan speeds (that Im aware of) but my motherboard does that by default.

All I need now is a quieter cpu fan :)

I would expect the highest temp to be the northbridge, but who knows.

I had similar questions which were answered by viewing the support forums for my motherboard. Post the model number.
