Hi all. Just bought a new PC and a BGT3595 card. I need to power the card using a standard four pin floppy connector. But my PSU only provides two SATA power cables, and both being used to run the HDD and the DVD drive.

I need to somehow split one Sata cable into a Sata cable and a four pin cable. Can this be done? Is there something like this out there (I've searched with luck)? Or any other suggestions? Thanks

Read the manual fully but I'm pretty sure you only need to attach the power cable if you want the card to power a DiSEqC motor.
I have a Tevii S480 dual tuner DVB-S/2 card and don't need the floppy drive power connector attached.

I've read the manual and various forums about how it won't tune if the power isn't supplied. http://home.btconnect.com/blackgold/Downloads/BGT3595%20Installation%20Guide_1-0-1.pdf

I haven't actually got the card yet, but when it gets here I want to be able to use it. Just to connect to freeview DVB-S via old sky dish, which currently works fine with (powerless?) Nova-s cards.

I did look into this some time ago and although if you search long and hard it is possible to find a converter from SATA to molex (not in NZ that I could find though) but it is not recommended even just to power molex ignoring that you want to split it. Can you no get a different power supply that includes molex?

The PC is an Acer desktop with the PSU looking pretty much impregnable. Maybe the simplest solution is to get a different tuner card :(

Then you just need to find a Molex to FDD adapter

Should be easy easy enough, they are about $7 at PBTech.

Another good place to look for these types of adapters is ebay. Dealextreme is really good, nice bonus of free shipping!

Yea reading that manual they call it the LNB power connector so it looks like you will need to attach it otherwise the LNB won't get power and you won't get any signal.

You could replace the power supply.

Most supplies have heaps of connectors.

Can confirm that the card will not function without the power being attached. Bit of a problem actually as the floppy type of connector seems quite rare these days...

Thanks for the confirmation and ideas. I think the simplest solution is to look for a different tuner card. The PSU appears unique to the case, and it seems there is no suitable adaptor cable.

Will be taking the BG off to TM and look for for Tevii instead. PM me if anyone is interested in a deal.

Most of the dual DVB-S2 tuners require the floppy power connector. Just grab the adapter off deal extreme.

You have a look at the TBS 6981, it requires additional power but not the four pin floppy connector.

Thanks, but even with the DX adaptor I would still need a molex to sata + FDD cable, as the sata cable being split is currently attached to the dvd drive.

Go back to your PC supplier and ask them for a Power adaptor cable which should have been in the Motherboard box anyway.
My new PC has SATA drives but there were two adaptor cables for Floppy drives unused in the Motherboard (ASUS P7P55D-E) box.

Lots of great suggestsions. Thanks all.
What I've done - bought a Tevii s480 from TM and am using that flawlessly without a power cable attached. Got all the freeview and SBS channels. Also bought a Zotac ITX PC which I'll put the BGT3595 in and try my hand at linux. Nothing is for sale at the moment except some Nova-S cards from my old htpc. See the offers thread.
