As mentioned over here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumId=34&topicId=96028
I am having problems with my current projector so i am looking for a new one.

My problem is i only have HDMI out on my laptop so need a projector with HDMI in, these tend to be out of my price range.

This one seems to tick the boxes though: http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-photography/projectors-screens/projectors/auction-444746251.htm

I should point out it is only to display my computer screen in a darkened room, i will not be watching TV/Movies on it and i am not worried about the resolution.

It will be used in a teaching environment to display my computer screen.

Has anyone ever bought one of these? Are they any good?

Do you think it will be good enough for what i need it for?

gotta give the seller credit for an honest answer to your query.

for a classroom, you need some serious horse power, something like http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-photography/projectors-screens/projectors/auction-443083737.htm would do the trick, 1024x768 resolution and 2000 ansi lumens, definitely an office oriented projector, not home theatre.

As above you are after a DATA projector not a home theater projector. They are both very different beast's.

Can you tell us what model laptop you have as it seems surprising that it does not have VGA or s-video out.

I didn't actually ask that question, good on the seller for being honest though.

The projector you linked to is great, sounds perfect for what i need but i have the same problem - it doesn't have HDMI input, and my laptop only has HDMI output.

I do have a spare PC here that i could setup permanently just for projections - that would save me a lot of time and money. I would just lose the convenience of projecting straight from my laptop.

My laptop is a Dell XPS 15, core i7 model about 6 months old. I will try and find the full specs online.

Unless they have changed the shape of S-video outputs recently i don't have one. It is a real PITA to only have HDMI out actually.

Yep, just need an adaptor like this one
http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/apple/components/auction-443224959.htm

Can come in DVI flavour too.

Yep, you can get MiniDP to DVI or VGA adapters, alternatively HDMI to DVI cables are readily available.

Yeah if you can get a projector with DVI then you are set.. DVI=HDMI sometimes without sound and if there is sound it is not HD. Plenty of cables available which go from HDMI to DVI or you can get adapters as well.

This is the projector i have now: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=437297723

It works fine in normal lighting conditions, but the classroom also has dimmer lights which means it is crystal clear on a white wall.
