Hi

Are there different types of AVI files?

My new Panasonic Viera ST30 will play Movie AVI files no problem. Straight off a flash drive, sweet.
Ive noticed it will not play my digital camera (Canon) AVI files? "File format not supported"

Any reason for this, and a possible solution?

Canon AVIs are usually MJPG, that is each frame is a standalone JPG image. The TV doesn't have a codec to support that, so you need to re-encode the AVIs to a format that it does support, using Handbrake or whatever. As a bonus the re-encoded AVIs will be much smaller. Alternatively I believe some of the media server programs like serviio will re-encode them on the fly.

AVI is just a container format that has one or more video and audio streams inside.
The video and audio streams can be in just about any format (codec). So for any device to be able to play a given AVI it needs to be able to
1) Read the AVI container. That is split out the video and audio into separate streams.
2) Decode the video and audio streams. That is have the right codecs
