So a few weeks ago I brought a $400 32" Konka LCD tv from dicksmith. Before you start hollering and what not saying you get what you pay for, that's besides the point. Because this tv doesn't even turn on. I've tried on 3 different plugs. All function perfect with other devices but not the tv. It doesn't respond to pressing the power button on the tv itself or the power button on the remote even though the led on the remote shows its sending the signal to it.

So is there anything I can try before taking it back tomorrow which I really dont want to do.

-Sam

Maybe a stupid question, but, Does it have a power switch?
Some of those TVs have a physical (rocker) switch (on the bottom edge of the TV often) as well as the soft buttons (like on the remote).

Has it ever gone?

Oh, you are also out of the konka 1 week warranty period.

Tough luck.

It didn't have a power switch, it had a power button. It was in the corner and looked like a damn bumper or something so didn't think to touch it. It was never referred to specifically in the manual because in the bottom right there is also a clearly labelled power button to bring it in and out of standby. This large button had no label at all.

Thought I should push it after reading your post and sure enough. It turned on. Works a charm now. Haha. I feel like such a dork for not trying it.

Thank you soooo much <3

happens to everyone at some stage or other. Even seen experts make silly mistakes.  Only difference is most never admit to making a silly mistake

could have been worse, you might have taken it back to have some 18 year old tell you the same thing with a condescending look on his face making you feel like a real dork

I still can't believe people don't do this...
Even people who surf this site and believe themselves to be 'tech savy'.
Resorting to forums prior to reading the manual - WTF?

I can't believe people still pass judgement without reading all the posts in said forum. RTFP.
If you bothered to read it, you would see that I have said this button on the back was not mentioned in this manual once. And it had no label or icon or anything so there was no reason to think it was a button.

So get your facts straight please before you get all high and mighty.

The manual for these house brand products can be just as bad as the products themselves, so I am not surprised it didn't say anything in it.
You could have taken it back, and they too may not have been able to find the problem, as some of these store people don't know the products they are selling anyway.

Did I mention you?
Did I mention your case?
I'm referring to the post from xpd. People constantly post questions on here as their FIRST port of call, instead of heading to the manual, or, just for the heck of it, thinking through the problem with a clear head.
Remember, it's not all about you, or, indeed, your Konka.

Glad you got it sorted.
The first time I installed one of these for someone it took a while to find the power.=, and you are right, nothing in the manual.

Even a little sticker on the back would be suffice. Oh well. Crisis averted. Haha

I'm just curious, now that you have go the TV to turn on, what do you think?

I know it is subjective and all but I'm in the market for a new TV, would you recommend one at that price?

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?
