Hi all,

I have recently bought a Sony 40EX520 Smart LED TV, and want to watch TVNZ On Demand through it.

I can use the built in browser to go to the normal On Demand website (www.tvnz.co.nz/video) and also the PS3 'site' (www.tvnz.co.nz/ondemand.xl), but both of these rely on Flash to play video, which the TV doesn't support.

As there is an iPhone/iPad app for On Demand, there must be non-flash video streams to run this, right?

Does anyone know if there is a URL for the iOS TVNZ video service I can 'hack' into with the TVs non-flash browser?

Cheers ears.

I doubt it will be possible to do this.

Media playing on TVs is still a very hit and miss affair - no real standards, codecs and formats supported vary TV by TV, and each TV typically supports only a narrow range of codecs and formats.

Try contacting Sony NZ. Unless they can supply a solution I suspect that you are out of luck, and will find that you need to connect a computer or well featured media player (eg a PS3) to do what you want.

Edit: typos

You can't. It's not possible and unlikely to be possible in the future.
I have a Sony EX720 and IMO the Internet capability is a complete waste of time. You only get what Sony lets you have.
The only useful feature to me is for firmware updates.

I disagree - I can access the entire Internet through the browser on the TV (flash not supported), watch a large range of internet video (youtube, etc) and watch videos via USB (sometimes need to reformat the vid do correct codec).

What I want to know is are the non-flash video feeds TVNZ use to service the iPhone and iPod apps accessible via a 'hidden' www url, as you can with PS3 service? If so I could reach them via the TV's non-flash, yet otherwise fully functional web browser.

Cheers again.

Yes you can, but it is painful to navigate through the web browser. Some of it is quite laggy too, I think they have fairly weak processors in them. It is fully featured but has no flash. I find it far better to connect an older computer to it, and just use a wireless mouse.

I don't think ondemand is available on the ipad either is it through the tvnz app. The only shows it let you play are the TVNZ ones such as closeup etc. But not the normal ondemand shows like drama ones. But perhaps the latest version now does?
