Hi Guys,

I just got myself a SFF Asus P6-P7H55E SFF PC.   Its going to be dual use light gaming / HTPC setup.
Planning on putting a i7-870 (95w) inside along with half decent low profile GFX card (Radeon HD 6750 or ideally 6850 if I can find an afox low profile one). System will have 2 sticks of DDR3, 1x SSD HDD, PCI DVB-T, USB n draft wireless and say 2 other USB devices max (most likely a HDD with external power and a bluetooth dongle)

Problem is the PSU is only 200W stock which I figure slightly light for the component setup I was looking at.

Hence my need to find a 0.8U PSU replacement (80mm x 40mm).   Have ebayed and found loads of 1U PSU's (100mm x 50mm) but no .8U's.   My only other thought / (and less desirable) option is to use an stock PSU and mount externally with leads running to the case.

http://www.attro.com/html/power-1.htm - this company has 350W .8U PSU's but cant find any for sale online.

So after some help - do you think the stock PSU will cope with what im planning.   Any suggestions to where to look for a small PSU?

OK now im confused... according to this site - http://www.evercase.co.uk/PowerSupplyMeasurement.htm - the 1U PSU is 80x40mm - can someone confirm or deny this for me?!? lol

Edit - done more diggin it is an ATX-Flex PSU I need (god bless google)... now can only find maximum 320W - will this be grunty enough for the above components?

I had a quick search onlne too and could only find 320W max.
I think that might be a little light.
Probably have to go for a standard size case and I would be looking at around 450W+ to be safe.

Yeah is always the problem with SFF machines...

PSU extension like this may work, depends on the case

Power extender- cool idea.. much better than letting it sit on the floor..

found http://store.chassisoutlet.com/atpo1ufl40po.html - a 400W FlexATX but cant find any store that would ship it to NZ - might have to run with that extender

you can get external psu too, kinda like those ac adapters for laptops where you have the little brick on the end of a cord.

HTPC / Home automation (home assistant) enthusiast.

Thanks - ended up getting a 400W flex 1u supply from ebay - postage was impressive less than a week to arrive.

Also just purchased a afox low profile HD6850 - had to use japangoodsfinder.com for that - its the only place to get a low profile HD6850 but wanted a 1/2 decent card and that seemed to be the most powerful in low profile

Once its all plugged in and running no doubt will be back to ask questions re software lol

Well my saga continues - ended up purchasing the low profile afox HD6850 - which requires pci-e 2.1 (it draws 127W at load)

just clicked the asus p55 mobo is pci-e 2.0 (which I think only supplies 75w). As the GFX card doesnt have an external power connector i would assume im poked so to speak - any ideas on this anyone?

i guess i now end up ditching the mobo / case combo getting a silverstone or the likes htpc case for matx / a matx 1156 motherboard with pci-e 2.1 and bolting everything up too it (the atx flex supply will probably look a tad retarded in the case but oh well)

in the end could of saved a load of cash by starting out with the matx case and then not having to spend bigger dollars than needed on a low profile gfx card and flex psu unit

haha just thought id share my learning curve - watch TM for some bargins lol

This is what I'm going to do for a SFF-ish build

Some notes:

Prices just from Computer Lounge and Ascent (I don't trust those other really cheap e-tailers), You should be able get discount off the total price by asking for a quote for all the parts from CL on their forums.

Lian Li case dimensions are: (W) 199mm x (H) 280mm x (D) 366mm not the smallest but small enough for me, the bonus is you can use standard PSU and video card.

Chose a low profile quiet cooler, it should just fit I think.

Wanted to use an i5 2500k but there aren't any see any good mini-itx Z6x chipset boards h6x doesn't support multiplier unlock, also overclocking heat might be problematic in a small case.

No optical drive or hard drive (just ssd), will just use network storage for media etc.

Tv card probably use Silicon Dust HDHomeRun network based tv tuner.
