Although I'm not new to technology, I'm now in my 70s and finding it more and more difficult to keep up with the constant change, innovations and improvements. Undecided Nevertheless, I'm hoping to help anyone with less knowledge and get help from those with more. Somehow, I think there'll be more of the latter.

Thinking about, I've been totally keen on miniaturisation since I bought my first spy camera as a kid. It was about the size of an  eclipse mints tin and would be considered big by today's standards. Years later my dad bought me one of the first portable transister radios for my 11th birthday and I was hooked. But the list goes on and on: tape recorders, cameras of all kinds, phones, handheld CB radios, GPS, audio players, sound systems, gaming devices, etc.

My first mobile phone was a Motorola brick, followed by more bricks. My current mobile is half the size and around a fifth of the weight of the brick battery and fits in my shirt pocket. The first computer I worked on was part of one of the first phototypesetting machines imported into NZ in 1978. The b&w monitor was around 10 inches and the code books were six times thicker than my laptop. Things have changed a lot since then.

So please bear with me if I ask more than I answer. Cheers.

Hi Bob and welcome to GeekZone.

Sounds like you'll fit right in here.

I've found folks helpful in so many ways. I don't think I've been able to help anyone yet - but one day ;)

<- don't ask me where I am - I haven't a clue: its a tech thing ;)
Housewife computerer: not particularly great at either.
And don't take me too seriously.

Hi Bob. Really enjoyed your first post because I'm interested in early geekism - so I started a thread along those lines.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Many thanks, Craig. Which leads to my first question: where can I find that thread? Cheers, b
