Hi to all Members
First post on this forum and some advice for members thinking of getting into a contract with ADT Alarms. In June 2016 I called up ADT Alarms after seeing an advert on Trademe. A saleswoman came over to my place and I signed up for a 30 month contract. I paid upfront $1648 which included the cost of the alarm. My flatmate was with me when I asked the saleswoman what will happen, if after the 30 months I do not wish to continue with the contract. She told me all that will happen is that ADT will come and remove the wireless alarm system. I am planning on selling my home and having it listed by October. I called up ADT this morning and this is where it gets interesting. I was told that there is a cost if I cancel my contract now or on the 8 Dec when it expires. That cost is $517.00. Please note that this was never mentioned by the saleswoman when I asked her at the signing of the contract. The other alternative I have is buying the alarm off ADT. That would be $309 currently or a bit less on the 8 Dec. I was told by the operator that the alarm I had installed was $2200 at time of installation but due to depreciation it now costs $309. A bit overpriced for $2200. Only 3 wireless sensors and control panel. I am highlighting this issue so that members who may think of getting into a contract with ADT are aware that some information like ending your contract costs are not told to you by the salespeople even when you ask as in my case.
