Introducing Team Forte NZ (CaseIT 2013 competition)

Q. So what is Team Forté NZ?

A. Team Forté is the name of our team (that’s Bevan, Karleen, Tim, Bob and Chris) who entered a prestigious international Management Information Systems (MIS) business case competition known as CaseIT. Our entry was good enough to secure a spot in the next round, held in Vancouver Canada in February 2013.

Q. What is the CaseIT Competition all about?

A. CaseIT is an annual business case competition now in its 9th year. It has a strong Management Information Systems (MIS) focus designed to find the best and brightest in strategic IT case analysis. It is a forum where students from various backgrounds of IT and business can showcase their skills in areas such as teamwork, problem solving, and critical thinking to a panel of industry professionals.

It involves three rounds: a preliminary round open to undergraduate teams from universities and technical institutes around the world. Each university can only enter one team, who are given a business case and must develop real-world strategies for the business. Teams submit a PowerPoint with narration breaking down the case, and presenting our chosen strategy.
From there, the top 13 teams are chosen to join the previous years’ final three for the next round in Vancouver Canada.

The next round involves a new business case, where teams are isolated from the outside world (including Facebook!) for 24 hours to develop their plans, which they must then present to other students and industry professionals. The final round sees the top four from the second round present again. Whether it’s an all new case or a refinement of the existing case, your guess is as good as ours!
