For some time I was in denial. At first I used to shrug off the comments and thought nothing was wrong. "They don't know me" I tried to constantly keep reminding myself... but that never worked. Then there was period where I though because everyone else was doing it, people would be more accepting - alas no.

And of course there were the awkward introductions. "So what do you do for a living?" "oh, I'm in IT". "Ah you're a geek then?" cue uneasy laughter "...yeah"

(of course the next thing out of their mouths is usually..."Oh? I have this problem with my pc/phone/laptop/tv/dishwasher.....". 8 years and major dose of cynicism on, this has prompted me to find a t-shirt that says on the front "Does I look like I'm a *beepin* Care Bear?")

PS - hello!
