Well, I've already posted a few things here at Geekzone and find myself returning again and again. A nice community here.
So it's about time I said Hi and told y'all about myself:
Name's Jon and I live on the North Shore, Auckland. I trained classically in electronics more than a few years ago and nowadays work for a large NZ IT company- currently doing field support of desktops, servers and associated rack gear, but have just spent the last two years doing remote support of a couple hundred servers and around a thousand desktop users around the country. Hey, gotta pay the bills somehow.
Married, two cats, and a few tropical fish incl 3 discus which I think are spectacular fish. I'm into skiing and sailing. No skiing this year however, I smashed my knee at Cardrona last year and it's still coming right.
I'm not the kind of person to be into technology for technology's sake. I always think it's a means to an end, so the latest hi-spec pc's don't do anything for me- technology is always improving and pc's are always getting faster. It's the end result I'm interested in- does your day get better because the technology is making it better? For example, I recently edited music for a friend's wedding and burnt it to cd. Technology made their wedding day better.
I'll leave you with one of my favourite quotes:-
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable fom magic" - Isaac Asimov
"Any technology distinguishable fom magic is insufficiently advanced" - Unknown pundit
Cheers
Jon
