Hi folks,

Greetings from sunny Dunedin.

This is my first serious visit to Geekzone, having seen bits and pieces about it in the past.

I've been working in the telecommunications industry for over 20 years now, starting as a trainee technician for the Post Office back in the late 14th century. I've taken the long way round to now be working for the opposition - the long way being 12 years in Europe.

As you can imagine, I've seen a significant change in the industry. I've worked on manual exchanges right through to Juniper routers chundering IP through at 10GB.

I'm looking forward to reading and contributing to discussions in these forums.

I am also a bit of a wealth of knowledge of all things telecomytechie, so feel free to ask.

I really like Johnski's Asimov quote in his introduction. My favourite is from Newton:

"If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."

(this is written around the edge of the UK's 2£ coin)

Take care,

Wob.

Hi Rob,

Welcome to Geekzone -- it's great to have you aboard Smile

I'm sure you will be able to shed a lot of light on issues relating to ADSL and the lack of performance thereof, and no doubt heaps of other things as well.

I started as a trainee tech. in Broadcasting at around the same time.  Back then, NZPO, Broadcasting and the military were the main sources of trained personnel.  What a difference from nowadays!

Cheers,
Grant.
