Aloha kakou. I am an assistant professor of Hawaiian Studies from UH-Hilo and will likely be attending U of Otago next semester, probably arriving in mid-January 2008. I'll be pursuing a Ph.d. in Ethnomusicology.

I'm also the tech coordinator for our college, have been involved in telecommunications since the 1980s, and have been involved in the movement to perpetuate the Hawaiian language since the early 1990s. I designed and continue to administer a Hawaiian language server based on FirstClass as well as our college's web server. I am also a composer of Hawaiian music and very involved in the Hawai'i recording industry. I have a Hawaiian music blog at Nahenahe.net and did a podcast there until it became too much like work Tongue out

While I've been browsing through this site and picking up valuable tidbits, I'd also love to hear from anyone in or familiar with Otago in regards to wired, wireless and mobile services, if anyone has specific recommendations. I'm very Mac-centric, have been since the days of the Mac Plus, and have worked extensively with Apple to add support for the Hawaiian language.

I'd very much like to meet and being interacting with folks in Otago and NZ who are also interested in these areas, and hopefully meet up when we arrive.

Mahalo a nui (many thanks)

Keola Donaghy

Aloha and mahalo to you all for the warm greetings. I'll stay tuned to this forum as we finalize preparations for our move to Dunedin in January.
