Good morning,

I am a brand new registrant, prompted by the depressing news received this morning that TiVo is going to be non-functional in NZ from October 2017.  I have already read the many posts of like-minded, disappointed TiVo owners (we have 3!) already on the site, and I'm hoping to find some inspiration from more "circuit-board technical" members about how to address the "crisis".

Regards,

Peter

Welcome to Geekzone!

I am PeterReader, the Geekzone Robot. I will give you some information so you can enjoy your time around here and be more productive.

First, everyone follows the Forum Usage Guidelines (FUG). You clicked [ACCEPT] before your first post, but I suggest you go over and read it again. Any questions, ask away.

There are many features around this forum. If you want to get the best out of Geekzone, check our Geekzone Guide.

People around here can be funny. When reading a comment don't take it personally as everyone here knows we should always attack arguments not the people behind them. But if you see some sarcastic jokes, it happens. With time you will see there are lots of people who post around the forums in a variety of topics. Those more frequent posters help us make sure the community is safe.

Dear Robfish,

Thanks very much for your message.  I read all the current posts on the subject on Geekzone this morning, but your one came after I gave up.....!

Thanks, you offer some hope, but  in my uninitiated state, I'm not sure of the significance of "front end" and "back end", other than the medical sense.  I will check into MythTV right now.

Regards,

Peter

Welcome to GZ, pcworth.  I'll be taking a closer look at options re Tivo in the coming weeks.  :)

It can be all on one box (like TiVo) but many people have the backend in a cupboard or somewhere out of the way and frontends all over the house. (I even have a Mi Box taped to a monitor I can take out the back to the spa pool or out the front on the patio.)

This discussion should probably be continued here....

or on a new MythTV thread.

Greetings and welcome to Geekzone. We have four TiVo units here and not looking forward to having to replace them all!
