New only in relation to this forum.  I am retired now but have had a few careers:

  • Trained as a teacher in mathematics and physiology
  • Ended up with the military in intelligence, silly enough to get shot
  • On return to civilian life did a degree in Civil Engineering, working for local bodies in a series of roles.
  • Went on a big OE for three years, working as a freelance photographer across NZ Australia and Asia, selling images to image banks, corporates and travel companies.
  • Got married to a Canadian girl and forced to get a "real" job to pay the bills - training and working as a sales engineer
  • Moved from NZ to Canada, worked for a while as a traffic engineer.
  • Did a post-grad diploma in IT and worked as a trainer /consultant for an IT corporate, surviving 3 company ownership changes
  • Worked on the development team for Windows 95 and Office 95 interface (right-mouse click etc.)
  • Worked as senior trainer in Western Canada for my IT company.  Also trained in and taught sales, customer satisfaction and management skills.
  • In my spare time (apart from photography) became a certified fitness instructor, rehab PT and trainer of fitness leaders for BC Govt.  Wrote books on exercise physiology and nutrition.
  • Returned to NZ, worked as an IT trainer, ICT technical trainer and engineer. Finally ended up teaching ITIL ITSM (as ITIL Expert) to staff in a large ICT corporates.  Wrote a book on ITSM.
  • Moved back to Canada but when my partner (who is not Canadian) was diagnosed with cancer, forcing a return to NZ.
  • Now retired and taking photos for me for free!

Welcome to Geekzone!

I am PeterReader, the Geekzone Robot. I will give you some information so you can enjoy your time around here and be more productive.

First, everyone follows the Forum Usage Guidelines (FUG). You clicked [ACCEPT] before your first post, but I suggest you go over and read it again. Any questions, ask away.

There are many features around this forum. If you want to get the best out of Geekzone, check our Geekzone Guide.

People around here can be funny. When reading a comment don't take it personally as everyone here knows we should always attack arguments not the people behind them. But if you see some sarcastic jokes, it happens. With time you will see there are lots of people who post around the forums in a variety of topics. Those more frequent posters help us make sure the community is safe.

If you feel you need help, look for freitasm, our BDFL and send him a Private Message (PM) by clicking the email button.

We have a few accounts on Twitter and would love if you followed us: @geekz1, @geekzonenzforum, @geekzonenzjobs. You can also use watch forums and topics or use our RSS feeds to keep on top of discussions. Check the menu items on top and bottom of all pages to find out more.

Welcome.. cool resume :-)

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.
