I was hoping to part of a forum again. I've hopped from forum to forum and have never really stayed in any. Hoping to try out geekzone.
In some of my Google searches in the past about tech specifically related to NZ, I've come across posts from GZ time, and time again. I notice that there's a lot of knowledgeable people in here too. This looks like a nice forum to settle down at.
My interests:
I'm a Uni Student studying Mechanical Engineering. I was doing computer science and physics because I couldn't get into Engineering out of High School because of my grades and then made the jump 1.5 years later. I chose M.E because I saw there being a lot of freedom for creativity and design.
I hate Uni but I love making things and researching things for weeks on end.
I'm interested in crypto, actual viable use cases, and trading.
I created an LED crypto ticker, inspired by stock market tickers. I 3D printed a case of thingyverse and coded the software, using the help of a LED display library. The way it works is by grabbing the current prices off an exchange using an API and then creating images from text, merging it all together and then displaying it on the screens.

I'm working with my friends on a project to optimise the operation at the Ports of Auckland using dual band gps tech and possibly the new SBAS gps upgrade for australasia. Very early days but the ports and uni have shown a lot of interest in it. Hoping to take it somewhere so that I don't have to rely on my GPA getting me jobs. Will have to work on the software for it in the future which means I have to re learn how to code.
I enjoy privacy technology. Encryption, proxies, VMs and whatnot.
I'm not a linux user because I was fed up with windows 10 being rubbish. I bought a Thinkpad T400 to play with.
Also; what's the deal with all this 5G propaganda? How is it "revolutionary"? Do we really /need/ 5G? If it's faster than fibre, will it replace all fibre infrastructure?
I know this isn't entirely coherent or structured, so thanks for reading this far.
Oh, I also roll, develop, and print my own photos. If I've scanned them, they can be seen here: sakuretsuarmour.tumblr.com
