Hi All,
After a few months of reading posts, and benefitting from many of them, I've finally joined Geekzone!
I thought it was about time that I put something back into this, rather than always reading other posts, and hopefully will be able to offer something useful to others out there too.
Anyway, a bit about me: I'm Simon, and moved from the UK in 2001, now living on Auckland's North Shore, and work in the city as an IT Manager (one-man department).
Have been into computers and technology for the last 23+ years - anyone remember the Commodore 64?! - and if it wasn't for being married (to a Kiwi, btw) I'd probably be constantly upgrading everything and be broke as a result!! I'm sure others can relate.
I find anything to do with technology fascinating, and with my father-in-laws assistance (who's an electrician, so between us we're a nightmare!), I installed a home-theatre system last year, complete with projector, motorized screen, 5.1 surround sound, and all operated with a Logitech Harmony remote. The wife can operate it all too, so at least there's no complaints from that side of things!
Outside of technology, my main other interests are obviously the family, and I've also recently rediscovered my enjoyment of cycling (after a 10-year break), and took part in a three-person relay team going round Lake Taupo at the end of November last year, with me doing half of it (I'm still not quite sure how that happened). I also enjoy watching Formula 1, but will quite happily watch pretty much any form of motorsport given half a chance.
That about sums me up. You'll no doubt be hearing from me in some of the forums fairly soon. Hopefully I'll have something sensible to add!
Cheers,
Simon.
