I guess I'm a software person, although I get labelled by family and friends as "working with computers".

My greatest strength is that I'm very clear about the myriad things I know absolutely nothing about, and I've joined to get some advice from a community with some experts in it.

I don't know which forum to use for my questions, so as part of introducing my reason for joining, please point me in the right direction.

We're at the framing stage in a new house, and I need to hurry on pricing for cabling, entertainment and security.  It was kinda my only responsibility and I'm failing.

I need a good home office, and will be installing a decent server/rack/switch/UPS combo in a dedicated location  (this is the only bit of the equation I have any skill in).  I will happily run CAT6 in every direction, but have no knowledge/ability to define what else is needed to do everything else I need.

I'm looking for referrals to commercial companies/people who can assist with quoting me on what I need to achieve.

So...home office, with two people working over a Cisco VPN to the city office.  This will deliver IP telephony to our desks for the office phone, and then we need "home phone"...or do we... Distributed Sky/Freeview/TV to 7 rooms through the house.  Some Audio, but we're not big music buffs, security system plumbed to the TV's, gate/door activation from anywhere.

Who the heck to I talk to about doing this?  I don't want "home automation", I just want to watch TV, make a phone call, and get a good clear connection via fibre at my gate to the internet.  I want to ditch the 3 harddrive recorders, and combine all my recording, and play it back from anywhere.

Can anyone recommend a South Auckland/Franklin/Waikato professional who can advise and do, without going over the top in complexity and pricing?  I would greatly appreciate any advice.

I've lurked a bit, and there are some very clever folks in geekzone, and I'm just hoping some of you do this for a living, and not just as a hobby!
