Hi everyone

I'm glad to have stumbled across this NZ forum while googling to solve a laptop problem :-)

I enjoy mucking around with computers, but am not technically trained, so spend a lot of time on forums looking for answers!  For the last several years, almost seven I think, I've been using Linux as my main stream computer OS.  I do maintain a Windows machine also, as there's one or two things I still use there, although I'm about to embark on the virtual world journey and install WinXP in a Virtual Box app on my Linux computer.

To pay the mortgage I work as a nurse in a Medical ward at the local hospital.  I also enjoy gardening, reading, wine, food, friends, tramping/hiking, and having fun.

Nice to meet you all :-)

Welcome to Geekzone! If you have any Linux related questions I am one of the (possibly) many guys to ask.

Hi
thanks for the welcome.

I'd probably take my Linux questions to the forums specific to the distros I use - Pclinuxos for every day, and more recently Debian netinstll for learning.  However - it's good to know this resource is here as well, so you never know :-)

Of course Pclos runs so well I rarely have questions, and actually find Windows more difficult, probably because it's now less familiar.

Welcome! Good to see a linux user, hope you're using grsecurity! :)

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

Debian Squeeze here, I don't mind testing builds.

Ahh - some Debian users!  I might well be posting then because I haven't yet got sound going on my laptop.  Will get back to you when I hook it up and try again.

I started with Fedora 7 but dident like the short service life, after playing around with several distros I discovered Lenny and havent looked back, its an awesome o/s to run servers from!
I will have to have a play with Squeeze when I get another box to test on.

@silverbirch, sweet as. I'm sure someone will be able to help :}
