Hey everyone,

I'm Mike. 24years old, from shaky chch and studying to become an Air Traffic Controller.

Need help setting up my modem/router (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=66&topicid=87254) and my friends who are good with computers can't help so figure I need extra help, but still not willing to pay for it quite yet.

Cheers, Mike

Welcome!

Air traffic control is a very interesting career! What made you decide you wanted to pursue that?

I love being an ATC myself, but only using this:

Cheers for the welcomes guys. Muppet, I had never really given much thought to ATC and then my aunty mentioned it and I did some research and it looked awesome so I applied and made it through the exhaustive recruitment process.

That's awesome, well done.  What sort of stuff do you have to go through to get through the process?  It's a fascinating occupation.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

OOOHHHH HYPERFIBRE!

Hey man, first step was just an online personality questionnaire, then once I got through that there was another series of online tests to determine your ability to cope with the position, spacial awareness, deductive reasoning, mathematics, memory (from these online tests they determine your likelihood to succeed in the next stage which requires a visit to either Chch Aux or Wellington). Once I got through those I had to go to Chch for another day of similar testing spacial awareness, deductive reasoning, mathematics, memory etc and after those tests we had an interview with a couple of company staff. Then there was one final day of testing called the assessment centre and that included extreme tests of the things mentioned above, very intense day which included a full on hour and a half interview with a few company personnel which they would ask a question and you had to talk pretty well non stop the whole 90 minutes. Then 5 days after that (4months after initially replying) I was offered a position on the training course, subject to reference checks and passing medical tests and obtaining a class 3 medical, including an ECG, vision test, hearing test, breathing test, and blood test! Do not envy anyone who has to go through it. Will definitely be worth it in the end.

Wow that was long, but the process was long so makes sense I guess.

EDIT: and they had 2500 applicants and there are only 5 people on my course.
