Hey, I am looking for a new laptop and came across this.

Does anyone have any experience buying a factory refurb ? Is it a good idea or shall I just fork out a bit more for a new one from Noel Leeming ?

We've bought a number of factory refurb & ex lease items from PB. Where price isn't too dissimilar I'd go new, but if the saving is worthwhile then it's generally not an issue. PB bacck them with their own warranty, usually 3 month - 12 months (in the one you've linked, it's 12 months) and in my experience they've been good to deal with. HP are generally pretty good with factory refurbs, too, so chances are it's fine. Even with a brand new item there's the chance of issues (lets face it, the refurbs are ones that were bought new, had an issue, and were replaced). Certainly a better bet than buying used off trademe or similar.

Yeah. I'm going to be saving about $550. I think the deal ends today as well....

The one from Noel Leeming is a bit better spec wise.

I would only buy factory refurbished if it was done by the manufacturer. Eg such as with apple, as you know it would have been tested according to manufacturers guidelines. Also some of the returns they sell are just returned items which a customer changed their mind on, which they legally can't sell as new. You don't really know the history of non manufacturer factory reforms, but there are companies in the US which buy second hand tech, and people don't get much for selling, which I presume are resold. NZ does seem to now sell a lot of factory refurbished stiff, possibly good margins on them, compared to new.

2 out of my 3 screens are Factory refurbs that I picked up from PB Tech.

The one time I've had to return something under warranty had no issues with them.
If you're not wanting to shell out for new, It's defiantly a better option than buying from trademe.
