Interesting sentiment from the group. I am pretty Anti-Apple, but this latest MBP with the OLED touch panel (Which is the main reason for my interest) really got me going. It would HAVE to run Windows (incl full support for the touch strip), but it's the first MBP I've considered as a possibility without laughing manically afterward.

They aren't even making screens anymore. They have a 4K LG model listed on their site that is only 21.5" and is AU$1,099 and a 28" for $1,899 which seems insanely expensive compared to other high end UHD+ monitors on the market - and it only has a single Thunderbolt input.

I'm not an Apple person at all, but my wife is and she's been holding out for this, but not sure it was really worth the wait.

They never made their own. They just shove LG and other brands into aluminium and called it a day.

Benokobi is referring to Thunderbolt Displays and Cinema Displays (Apple branded external monitors, which do use 3rd party panels inside them)

Soo.. Who's getting one? I want to but I find it unwise to get 8gb ram in 2016, so will be upgrading to 16

I'm definitely upgrading my MBP to a new Touch Bar model, and likewise will be upgrading to 16GB RAM. I was surprised that this doesn't come standard on the 512GB SSD models.

I'm waiting to try one in store before I order one but no stores around me are willing to put out a demo unit.

I find Harvey Normans are good with having a supply of demo units of new apple models. JB Hifi are also okay. Other retailers though often have very little.

I think if the touch panel was near the track pad, it could be very useful for things like video work. But you have to instead stretch over the keyboard to use it, so it doesn't really make it any better than a touch screen laptop.

I asked at Harvey Norman and they had no comment regarding the new MacBooks. And doesn't seem to be on their website either. No JB anywhere near me so that's a no go. Noel Leeming is the only real electronics retailer down here in Invercargill.

I think some places like Oobe might have the non-touch bar model on display.

I think you'll find that there are no demo units because the Touch bar models are not available yet.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Yep Oobe (previously Yoobee) have the 13-inch non-touchbar model on display in Wellington.

Got to look at one today. Ridiculously thin and the keyboard is far better than I was expecting. Might just go for the non touch bar one as I can't justify the extra cost for a panel I don't want and performace I'm not going to need.

How did you come to that conclusion?  There are other places that you can purchase the same things as HN in Invercargill

And they have no comment regarding the MacBook. And their Electronics section in store is pretty bad.

Sorry, I misread your message, I thought you said HN was the only real electronics store in town.  I agree, the Harvey Norman in store experience has been gradually getting worse
