thanks for your help.

What are my options now? Try to claim under the 5 year warranty or getting a new card? How much is that gonna cost me?

I have absolutely no idea.

Ask your retailer about the 5 year warranty and what it covers.

I cant imagine it wouldnt be covered under the warranty!

ALternatively buy an external card, theres a few to choose from - some examples

Thanks for the suggestions, although I would prefer to go internal if possible.

I found one of these on TM http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Networking-modems/Wireless-networking/Adaptors/auction-181307882.htm

Is this what I'm after and if so am I able to easily slot it in to the laptop?

easily - definatley not!  It is never an easy task adding internal hardware to a laptop (bar RAM).  I do not see wht the wireless would not be covered by your warranty!?  Have you explored this avenue properly?

No haven't explored the warranty yet, because when we purchased the laptops, we only got the one extended warranty so it will only cover one laptop and if its only a matter of a few $$ to fix mine its probably not worth claiming, then if something more major went wrong with the other laptop then we'd be screwed.

Actually quite a few laptops these days are just as easy to change the wireless module as it is to change the RAM as I said in my previous post, this is by design and for this very situation.

Well I have located the card now, and it looks relatively easy to remove and replace. I watched a video online of how to do it so.. I think I'm sorted.  Now I just need to get my hands on a replacement one.. for a reasonable price!

I have already been there and checked.  I believe my model is excluded.. but might check again just in case I missed something.
