Hi Memuneh,
No tp Bluetooth connected phone.. I have had the two connected at times in the past but don't currently have it Connected..
I found the Log details via the
Device Manager
>> Modems
>> Standard Modems over Bluetooth Link
>> Properties
Then in that Window >> Diagnostics >> View Log..
I have tried updating the driver, and even disabled the modem. And the problem still persists.
Thanks again for your help.
Stephen
An interesting twist to this mystery.. and I have to confess I had not noticed before given the proximity of both is.. That the sounds are actually coming form the speakers of a separate Compaq monitor which I have connected via a VGA cable.. It's to ancient to have an HDMI.. the bizarre thing is though, that the sound is still coming even if I don't have the separate audio cable connected to it..
andrewNZ: Just did some testing myself. This might be limited to 2G or 3G because I couldn't get it to work. But my phone does cause this from time to time.

You can just right-click and remove this device since you don't use it anymore. If in the future you actually need it then you can install again.
Removing it should to the trick.

Thanks for all your help guys.. I will let you know if it's still there after uninstalling the modem..
Cheers

That's 2/2.5G which uses tdma, hence the rythemic effect.
3G onwards does not do that.

Yes it does, just not as bad. As does wifi and bluetooth to some really badly shielded audio devices. My logitech computer speakers make ticking noises if I have the laptop by them using wifi.

A couple of things possibly over looked here
VGA doesn't carry audio.
Those speakers are likely just 'hanging' on the monitor - with their own audio cable into a PC/Desktop.
Or it is an older all-in-one PC that has them integrated. And if you are using it as a monitor, the input has changed.
The device the speaker input is hard-attached to. Is likely dialling. Not the laptop. And it's purely co-incidental.
Assuming you have a 2nd PC somewhere there. Probably of W7/XP vintage. So you could be almost certain it's old enough to still have the modem plugged in. And something is doing an internet-request and kicking in the dialler as a result. Of which the pre-defined number (xtra dialup?) is no longer valid
Infact, most ISPs have dropped their dial-up nodes.
Pull the power cable from this 'monitor' (or additional desktop/PC) and watch it likely vanish.
If it still does then. You need to check for audio lead connectivity. As have likely paired a bluetooth device and enabled the modem function. And have something like malware trying to make charged calls.
(or someone has used the print to fax function and there is a pending job)

Interesting idea here. If this is indeed an old XP/Win7 machine, is it possibly still attached to the local network & internet? If yes, how likely is it that this all-in-one PC is now hacked?

Oblivian.. Thanks for all your suggestions..
Yes I am aware that VGA doesn't carry audio, which is what's weird about it..
Speakers are built-in to the monitor... which is a stand-alone monitor.. connected only to my Toshiba LAPTOP.. only audio connection is via a 3.5 to 3.5 audio cable.
(The device the speaker input is hard-attached to. Is likely dialling. Not the laptop. And it's purely co-incidental.)
Only attached to the laptop.. via a vga cable.
(Pull the power cable from this 'monitor' (or additional desktop/PC) and watch it likely vanish.)
It only happens when the monitor is attached - via vga cable - but the sound cable is not attached..
(And have something like malware trying to make charged calls.)
That is my only real concern is that I have a virus somewhere on my Laptop
(or someone has used the print to fax function and there is a pending job)
Thanks I hadn't thought to check with the fax option.. just did and it does not seem to be set up to send faxes..
I see under the All Control Panel Items there is Phone and Mobile i see there is SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem (Not Present)
And Standard Modem over Bluetooth Link
In the absence l try disabling one or other of those and see if the problem goes away..

That was him quoting my suggestion of the old compaq units I've seen being AIOs with onboard speakers, or just slung on the side of monitors and detacable/clearly cabled.
Only way I see forward is a need to take some photos of all your cables then
Because magic audio from a laptop over VGA to a monitor is nye on an impossibility.
And if it is infact Speaker pickup. Without the right cabling, would have to be getting noise from something totally unrelated nearby interfering.
@Stephendnz ... this got me intrigued so did some research, and found same problem for other people going back to 2012.
One of the remedy suggestions is that it may be some malware or virus contracted some time ago, but now activated due to a recent driver or program update.
So would not hurt to run something like Malwarebytes, and maybe another standalone virus/malware removal program?
Can we get a recording/video of this sound please?
