turb: Ha ha I think this topic has put me off getting a Dell! I'm looking for something my daughter can take down to Otago Uni for next year.
But just for the record: Does anyone know much do they charge to deliver a laptop within Auckland?
PB Technology (for after sales service) + Sony (for reliability) both come out well on the ConsumerNZ site: Any comments?
scottjpalmer: My memory disagrees, pretty sure it was $50 - $90
alienstew: Dell do "special offer" free delivery all the time on different models, just a matter of knowing what you want and ordering when it's "special"
My Dell Studio XPS1340 was delivery in less than 3 weeks, no delivery charge. Through my ignorance I thought there was a memory problem as my 4GB was reported as 2.2GB only. Dell sent a tech and swapped the motherboard and RAM on site two days after phoning them. Pretty good service. Only problem was the repair wasn't necessary, see http://www.geekzone.co.nz/freitasm/2674 A pity the Dell helpdesk and Unisys technician don't read Geekzone. I'd be happy to buy Dell again.

I've a Dell desktop also, now nearly 3 years old and running every day - never missed a beat, except for Vista problems, (hope this isn't tempting fate!)
I really can't find a problem with my experience of Dell
