I;ve been very impressed with dell. Friend had their computer not turn on when over here on tuesday night, called them to book a job on wednesday and he had a tech at his house on friday swapping the motherboard and video card over..

Compare to asus where it goes to the retailer who will take a week to send it to aussie, they will mess around and send it back via the same slow way to nz so you are without it for 3 weeks or so...

Ha ha I think this topic has put me off getting a Dell! I'm looking for something my daughter can take down to Otago Uni for next year.

But just for the record: Does anyone know much do they charge to deliver a laptop within Auckland?

PB Technology (for after sales service) + Sony (for reliability) both come out well on the ConsumerNZ site: Any comments?

Interests: HTPC, Web App authoring.

Free for me two, apart from the sending back fee which was around $170.

Dell do "special offer" free delivery all the time on different models, just a matter of knowing what you want and ordering when it's "special"

My Dell Studio XPS1340 was delivery in less than 3 weeks, no delivery charge. Through my ignorance I thought there was a memory problem as my 4GB was reported as 2.2GB only. Dell sent a tech and swapped the motherboard and RAM on site two days after phoning them. Pretty good service. Only problem was the repair wasn't necessary, see http://www.geekzone.co.nz/freitasm/2674 A pity the Dell helpdesk and Unisys technician don't read Geekzone. I'd be happy to buy Dell again.

Im glad someones had some good experience with this company.
I will give Dell that, they do get the technicans and stuff out quickly - The thing is, I needed to use that option wayyy to many times for my own good.

And their Customer "Care" team is pretty poor as well..

If you have no problems with your computer from Dell, count yourself lucky, and enjoy, because they are pretty good machines.

But yes, 32bit OS's will only recognise UP to 3.5GB of ran, but something more likely close to 3GB.

I've a Dell desktop also, now nearly 3 years old and running every day - never missed a beat, except for Vista problems, (hope this isn't tempting fate!)

I really can't find a problem with my experience of Dell

Again, lucky you.

Ever since I bought my Hell™ Machine, it's been an on-going battle with Dell.
