After a month of research on were to best get a laptop, I decide to stick with dell and order one online, big mistake.

I have been waiting for over 3 weeks now for my laptop, original is was given a date of 1 week, that was then scraped and I still have not been given a date on when I can expect it, online or in person.

And the customer service, which I though was good before, is a joke, I’m presently on the phone and have been  for more than 25 minutes…….. hurry after 40 minutes I have been answered new delivery date of next Tuesday, which means almost 4 weeks of waiting, (I’ll believe it when I see it).

Sorry, just wanted to moan to some one, I always thought dell was quick, hence why I went with them again, how things have changed L

That's pretty bad I'd be tempted to cancel the order and get a Toshiba, Acer or Asus from a quality local computer store like Computer Lounge or Ascent.

Why did you decide on Dell as being the best option? I had always thought & heard that their service (espeically after sales support) was quite bad. I think normally people buy off Dell as they see it as a cheap option as opposed to being the "best" - I guess that depends on your parameters for defining best though.

I've also read quite a lot about some of their hardware being a bit cheap and shonky at times?

Anyway, I hope once you finally get it delivered it all works out well (3 weeks does seem a joke!)

My XPS M1330 was still more expensive than my purchase price 12 months after the initial purchase - stoked!

Good luck with it, I have had no end of trouble with a recent purchase (Lattitude E5500), motherboard was recenlty replaced by Dell tech but issues still remain. They did send the machine to me very quickly when I ordered though.

It seems that when things go wrong with Dell they go very wrong, but so far so good for me.
I ordered an inspiron laptop - didnt customise it much I think that helps - got an initial delivery date of 3 weeks and it arrived right on the day predicted and has exceeded my expectations of it so far...

Would I reccommend Dell to my friends? well yes - with a warning that they might just have to wait a while to get it...

The only minor annoyance was that they charged my credit card soon after the order was placed whereas most other online places charge when the items are shipped.

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

I had a similar experience to MrOrange when I ordered a Dell Vostro laptop about a year ago. It took about 4 weeks to arrive.

At the time I complained pretty hard and got assigned a case manager with a DDI that I could call any time for updates. Yes, they did actually answer or call me back if I left a message! Their explaination was that they were waiting for the battery and chassis for the laptop I had ordered. Fair enough - at the time the Vostro was a brand new model.

The specifications I was getting at the time were amazing for the price, and I didn't need the unit in a hurry, so definately well worth the wait.

I was pretty happy with the service I received. However, I am pretty quick to steer people clear of Dell if they need something in a hurry.

yeah, i was surprised at how quickly they toke the money from my credit card.

I would cancel the order, but the items our still the same price as when i purchased it, my main concern is the fact that they now offer free upgrade to windows 7, which (i have asked) I'm not sure if i am entitled to, won't find out until its out?

The wait i wouldn't mind so much if they had given me the correct one first time, its the fact that the date has changed 3 times (or 4 can't remember now) and each time i have put of uploading my present laptop with new programs, plus put of a job by a day or two thinking I'd be able to do it quicker on my new set up.

Two much messing around

Trust me mate, I waited 4 weeks for my initial purchase,

3 weeks for my replacement,
2 weeks for my second replacement,

and 3 weeks for my last replacement,

not to mention another week for a service job to be completed for yet ANOTHER faulty hard drive.

If it wasn't for dell saying "SOrry, we will only give you a refund of the purchase price - 20%" I would have moved so fast you could smell the burning rubber on my shoes.

However, since it looks like i have uncovered yet another problem with my 3rd replacement laptop (Dell Studio XPS 16"). But thats in another thread here.

Im actually really tempted to cut my losses, send this bloody thing back, and get a refund, and just pay for the difference to get a different computer from a different supplier.

bloody hell, I thought i had it bad, I'm presently waiting on some one to pick up the laptop as the screen res is not good enough for my external monitor. I'll then have to wait another 4 week for the replacement, what i hate the most is the prices or deals our always changing while your waiting for you latop to arrive.

Trust me mate, what you're getting is nothing compared. Hours and hours and hours on the phone to tech support, managers, customer care, and everyone else under the sun.

What laptop did you get? (excuse my ignorance if it was mentioned earlier)

if i do send it back, i've decided to move over to the dark side.. Apple.

Yeah, the deals thing has really got my goat.

The studio xps i just got, in the us, has just been upgraded from the ATI 3670 to a 4670.

Which means I miss out on that.. not a huge thing since i have a desktop, but yeah. I missed out on that upgrade.

Dell is really deceiving though, they're the ONLY laptop supplier i've needed support for, and when you ORDER the laptop, I spose to some lovely person who spoke English as a first language, which made the whole process so much easier..

but when you get to "tech support" or "customer care", thats when you really find out what dells like.

Just yesterday, Dell ACCIDENTLY canceled my service, they were meant to cancel someone elses and canceled mine!

I swear they're doing this to me on purpose now.. its beyond funny now.

That's funny (not literal) on my first order it was canceled and and then given another customer number?

I know what you mean about customer care, it toke me 4 calls to actual place an order with them, i was trying to order it through there business section and they could not get over the fact my name was my business name?

I was very tempted to go for an apple, i have used them in the past, but stuck with what i know best, specially as i have the software for pcs, which was the main reason.

xps16, by the way

In all honesty i think the we our the dark side specially with the way dell have been treating us

You got that right.. THe only thing that really has me stuck is the XPS16 screen. it is actually really vivid. I love it. (BTW, I got the RGBLED 1920x1080)

Ha, well if I went and got an Apple, I would actually be installing Vista on it (Requirement for school) but at home, OSX all the way!

At the moment, im dealling with a guy that deals with executive stuff. Really nice guy actually. and if he says he will call back, he WILL call back.

Put it this way though: I will NEVER EVER EVER buy anything from Dell EVER again.

Between the service jobs, faulty hard drives, faulty screens and god knows what else. It's just not worth it.

I know people say "Apple is just as bad as everyone else" but the fact is, I hear less problems with Apple computers than I do with Dell.

Dell = Hell. so we are on the dark side I guess ;)
