Brend:

Wifey unplugged it when finished work (as she normally does because ... battery). Next day plugged in and pressed the on button ... nothing nada zip! So I got hold of it, tried the same without success and then opened it up. Disassembled some parts, cleaned it out, checked the power supply port (didn't know what I was looking for and put it all back together again - no spares (happy about that at least 😂).

Everytime I plug the charger in, the power led comes but it won't start up. So I lost interest.

4 days later (this morning), I plugged it in, switched it on and used some 4 letter words. Did the firmware update and ... well, I'll never know if it works because the moment I unplug the power supply it dies. So be it! I might have neglected plugging the battery in properly, but at this point, I don't care. It doesn't want to do updates properly, so all we will do now is make sure the data syncs properly to the NAS every time she works on (if it wants to play along).

Wow, that's the problem my daughters HP had, older model but still the same thing, hers refused to turn on, even though the light come on the side when the charger was plugged in, I popped it open, disconnected and reconnected the battery and its fine.  It turned on straight away, the removal of the battery for a few minutes solved it, likely what happened to yours, went so flat it was the same as removing the battery.

I wonder if you should just remove the battery, maybe yours has a fault with the charging circuit, see how it goes with no battery at all.

When I posted reply, I was hit with guilt and decided to connect the battery. While you were typing, I opened her up, connected the battery and close her back up again ... Been running for 3 minutes now on battery, but I didn't name this laptop "FreezesAt20Min"for nothing ... 😂

I don't have much hope, but lets see

I will still consider disconnecting the battery permanently and run it as a desktop (pretty much what wifey did anyway with the battery connected).

EDIT: Froze at 20 min

I am the reason idiot's guides exist
