bazzer: You still don't get it. Just because multizone DVD players are legal in New Zealand doesn't mean all DVD players need to be multizone!

As annoying as the region locking is, it was an agreed distribution system that was part of the original DVD design specs. Therefore they are all 'supposed' to be locked.
We are relatively lucky that for the most part in this part of the world we can get unlocked DVD players - in many cases the manufacturers supply them locked but you dont have to look hard to find out how to unlock them. I have seen one large electrical store with slips of paper attached to a well known DVD player brand telling you how to do it.
Sadly its a bit of buyer beware.
Glad you got your player sorted though - there arent many that cant be 'cured' if you look hard enough.
Saw an interesting thread somewhere about how you can hack into some model Samsung TVs and activate a TV recording function that you wouldnt normally ever know about - always pays to have a look on the internet with any electrical/computer based item you have - you never know what you will find.
