HD4400. Same CPU as Surface Pro 2. CPU inside Surface Pro 3 however is Corei5-4300U

How about i3 and i7?

But I think their is still alot of legacy code and software under the hood that needs cleaning out of it, as it is very bloated for what it is, and uses a huge amount of the storage compared to ios.

new Windows 8.1 Update systems with 16GB SSDs have 12GB free (including having the OEM recovery partition)

and this is on by default on Windows 8.x

WU won't download over a metered connection (user configurable)

We are talking about NZ market though, what is available in other markets isn't really applicable if it isn't going to be available here. If there was a surface pro with 3G in NZ, it would be an attractive option to many. I haven't seen the options for controlling 3G vs wifi data usage in windows 7 or 8 or how easy it is to setup and configure. Perhaps it needs a 3G chip in the computer for those menus or options to be visible, but would expect it to be setup directly from the right swipe menu in metro, and not have to go into the desktops control panel.

This is configurable on WWAN and WIFI connections from the Charms bar

SP3 is nice. But it isn't competing with an iPad its competing with other laptops

iOS8 rumoured to split screen

iOS is defragmented??????? A few screen sizes, no issues for apps to support all. In house, so need for hardware maker, OS maker to work together, and Telcos are not involved. Defragmentation is about many many devices having different hardware parts, and therefore non identical OS to support that.

Windows does need to be rebuilt from the ground up, no legacy stuff, I assume thats what Metro is aimed at?

I really want a SP3. I actually think this could be exactly the product they are trying to pitch it as to me. That keyboard has to be packaged in though. I cant believe its not and I'm not paying an extra $200 for it. Until then no deal. You don't buy a $1200 laptop without a keyboard and they are saying this will replace my laptop, so give me a keyboard please.

It is going to be really interesting to see what Apple do going forward. Microsoft is doing a good job of converging the tablet and PC space. It has it's growing pains but it is getting there.

Running Windows on an 8" tablet 18 months ago would have been suicide but now it is reality and pretty usable. The future is going to be full x86 in a tablet.

Apple are going to have to break some of their golden rules in the near future methinks.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I have Surface 2 Pro and love the device.
The Wacom pen is the only downside due to its inaccuracy and latency.
Nathan, Will the surface 3 pen work on surface 2?

I can answer that for you,

Short answer? No. Long answer? Surface 3 uses N-Trig pen technology, which is different from Wacom. N-Trig technology is active (eg requires power and connects to tablet via Bluetooth).

checkout this blog post which explains the new pen and digitiser in Surface Pro 3. There are less levels of pressure sensitive, "down" to 256 but overwhelmingly this is a better experience with ;latency and accuracy especially around the bezel edges

Surface Pro 3 will replace Surface Pro 2

we have a few hundred Surface Pro 2 left in NZ, once those are going Microsoft won't be bringing any more in

Keen to hear your feedback on this if you have any concerns?
