But its so hard finding the right laptop.

She dont drink speights but ;-p

Have you considered same model as me? It does have backlit keys. i9 24core will rip through any software. RTX4060 is plenty imo, even the 4050 is pretty good now.

The acer for $1600 is best cheap, but not sure if 16:10, is a hard search feature. But the vivobook pro or 16x are, but the vivobook 14 is 16:9.

I just watched a video comparing the Macbook pro (15 m2 8 core) vs the Vivobook Pro 16. The asus SLaYS the apple. But if you really have to have apple, absolutely everything about it costs more including the upfront cost. Then anything like adding more than 1TB space gets real expensive. Of course the asus OLED is class leading and its 24cores plus rtx4060 are a bit unfair to compare.

I like the Mac OS, I prefer MS, but I like them both, in fact I like some Linux shells too. But Mac OS costs, I realise now they have no way to dual boot it could be a long time before I use a mac again. BUT, I think Im sold Im appple TV+. I hate our hdmi chromecast and having to use the phone, it gets all glitchy. So Im selling the old  Xbox one and the Chromecast and even though we do not have a 4k OLED yet, the operating system on the apple TV looks brilliant. I suppose the new chromecst with its similar remote would be cheaper, but the OS and UI has me sold.

which model exactly?   My leading is this

https://www.justlaptops.co.nz/asus-tuf-gaming-a16-advantage-fa617xs-16-fhd-100-srgb-165hz-amd-ryzen9-7940hs-32gb-ddr5-1tb-2xgen4-radeon-rx7600s-8g-hdmi2-1-usb4-90whrbtry-cam-win11-18669?search=FA617XS&category_id=60&sub_category=true&sort=p.price&order=ASC

  • 16:10
  • USB-C PD/DP
  • Light gaming (cs:go at 5120:1440)
  • lots of ram
  • decent storage
  • backlit
  • not too heavy

that one is $2600, the i9s you posted are about $1000 more and I think will fail the usb-c dp/pd thing.  I want to just dock this to a ultra wide monitor (5120x1440), kb/m, network with a single cable and be able to use the discrete graphics.

my understanding (which is very limited, cos how often do you research and buy a new laptop), is  that the a nvidia gpu would need more power than usb-c and would need  abarrel jack, or a special usb-c which would means docks cant be used.  or usb-c for power then another usb-c for the dock for display.

Why will VivoBook pro fail the USB C dock? They are backlit keys supposedly.

So for you, processor power isnt the most important, nor is graphics (within reason). What are you most needing it to be able to do?

The base model VivoBook 14s are 16:10 after all (I think)

(quick example)  ASUS VivoBook Pro 14 OLED M3401QC-KM210W 14"2800x1800 100%DCI-P3 90Hz AMD Ryzen9-5900HX 16GB 512GB RTX3050 NumPad WebCam Backlit-KB WiFi6 Win11 1.45Kg (justlaptops.co.nz)

I saw someone reviewing a rtx laptop who said they needed more than 100w and needed barrel jack to use GPU and justlaptops said the same thing basically.

Besides, that one is only 14", I'm after 16"

C'mon people, I've got JustLaptop / PBtech tabs and reviews coming out my ears and I don't even need a laptop...

Just so Im clear, what is the problem with the power supply for you?

Just for reference AMD Radeon RX 7600S vs NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU (notebookcheck.net)

I was sure there was a vivobook 16x Oled with an RTX4050 or 3060 for your money. Was just trying to give you options. THe asus Tuf gaming lappies are better than the  cheap Gigabytes...

It is slim pickings, the Strix is maybe another option. Nice bright screen, rtx 4050, nice screen just on specs, has the new i7..... ASUS ROG Strix G16 G614JU-N4132W 16"Nebula QHD+ 240Hz 100%DCI-P3 500nit Corei7-13650HX 16GB/DDR5 1TB/2xGen4 RTX4050/6G TB4/Charge RGB-Key Win11 2YrWty (justlaptops.co.nz)

Sure if you want a fairly generic laptop and dont have specific requirements.  then heaps of options, but if you have specific requirements.  less so

---

I was looking at the G16, that was my top pick, and I emailed justlaptops about it.  they responded with this

One more important thing to note. This G614 laptop has one of those barrel jack plugs. If you're looking to power it solely with a USB-C or thunderbolt connection, the laptop will not get enough power since USB-C/Thunderbolt can only provide 100W max, which means you'll still need to connect the barrel jack plug for the laptop to get enough power.

I have a dell dock thats 100w for non dell laptops, 180w for dell.  And i have some 100w chargers around the house.   Anything over 100w means it will drain faster than it will charge.

But someone please correct me if this is all wrong.

Righto' now I think I get it. So you essentially want something that will run off 100w? To be fair, that is pretty low, shame the dell does 180w. I reckon this Zephyrus remanufactured is right on the edge, it seems to draw 100 + 20w when in boost. But, wouldnt it just stop charging, Ive never tested our lenovo dock before in that way so Im unsure on ow it works. On another note, when the Zepherus was first released, I reckon it was the bees knees.

Edit: oh dang it currently says out of stock, but that could be for normal stock. It has 16:10 on a nice 500 nit 2k screen, last gen i9, 3070ti. Very nice bit of kit imo.

Not sure if this would work, but bang for buck seems hard to beat, good panel, latest i7-13700h 14 Core. along with an RTX4060

bASUS TUF FX507VV4-LP080W 15.6" FHD 100%sRGB 144Hz Core i7-13700H 16GB 512GB/Gen4 RTX4060/8G Win11 WebCam 90WhrBtry RGB-Keys TB4/Charge HDMI2.1 MIL-STD (justlaptops.co.nz)

The same thing but last gen i7-12700h, but with RTX4050 is $2200, that might be less a power load.

16:9 :P  I'm a programmer who will be programming most of the time on it.  Compiling code, docker images, stuff that needs a good CPU and good sized display.   Gaming is totally secondary, I have a gaming rig for that, but I would need this to do cs:go at 5120x1440.

ugggh, sorry I thought the new Tuff's are 16;10.

I told the Mrs last night $3400, not happy lol, I thought was far better than the $5400 pro studio.

Ive noticed a number of the the VivoBook 16x models at 4k OLED. But all are RTX3050 or Ti. The 3.2K model is the one that has the newer GPU's. I dont "think" its going to impact any work Im going to doo on it. Possibly video content enjoyment may be slightl higher at full 4k, but 3.2k should still look pretty awesme in OLED HDR........

Hi guys, I like to support local, but curious, are there any US shops that will ship to NZ? Even with all fees, some can be had for significantly less. Warranty logistics like always, but such is he gamble.

Have you checked the NZ Newegg website?

I got my Steam deck via Youshop and value but you got to factor in shipping and gst.
It tapped on about $200 NZD to getting mine as an FYI.

No I didnt know there was one. And thanks I had forgotten YouShop. That still works? Would save lots of $......

I was looking at Bestbuy, they have either the;

  • asus Proart Studio, i9 13gen 24 core, RTX4060, 32GB, Touch Stylus OLED 16:10 3.2k, with the art dial built into the keyboard

or

  • asus Vivobook Pro, i9 13gen 24 core, RTX4070, 32GB, Touch Stylus OLED 16:10 3.2k, with the art dial as a touch feature on the trackpad

Both are $1899US, which is significantly less than NZ even with import Tax. The difference between he two is the Proart Studio is meant to be higher end, it has the content development dial tool built into the keyboard, vs a touch version of it on the touchpad on the VivoBook pro. However the VivoBook pro has the higher end RTX4070 over the RTX4060 on the Proart. They are such similar systems, but the RTX4070 would sway me to the Vivobook.

They very very similar systems, but in NZ priced quite far apart for the same specs ($3400 vs $5400).

BestBuy probably wont ship to NZ, but that would be a darn nice price. I cant even find the Vivo 16v with an RTX4700 in NZ.

My budget has gone up from $1700, but these systems offer so much bang for buck along with being quality high end design laptops.
